What do you think of the name Thora?

Wow, I really seem to have stumbled upon a marmite name

Really like it. Also Nora and Dora

I think it's a lovely name, but my daughter is named Nora and that also seems to be unpopular on MN!

I also really like Nora / Norah and Dora - but not Flora or Cora.

I absolutely love it! I think of thora birch and was on my list!

I really like Thora and also Tora, which has that cool Scandi vibe.

Much prefer Scandi style Thora to soundalikes Dora and Nora (as they feel a bit dowdy to me) - but personally like Laura and Cora better still (probably due to their literary associations).

I do tend to think of an elderly Thora Hird before "cooler" Thora Birch, but that shouldn't be an issue for your DD's generation or even many of their parents.

Also like Flora too (again it's the literary associations that sell it to me), but the "spreadable" thing might put me off it a bit. The more I think about it the better Thora sounds - its stands out in a good way imo.

It makes me think of The Pursuit of Love:

This winter Uncle Matthew had a new tune on his gramophone, called 'Thora'. 'I live in a land of roses,' boomed a deep male voice, 'but dream of a land of snow. Speak, speak, SPEAK to me, Thora'. Love it. I do think of Hird, but it’s not a bad association. Please do use it.
