Just lovely

GuyFawkesDay · 20/12/2021 08:32

My best friend at school. A lovely name!

Littlecaf · 20/12/2021 08:32

I know two Ailishes - both are lovely and really clever! Go for it.

Trying2310 · 20/12/2021 11:40

Beautiful

M0rT · 20/12/2021 11:41

Love it, know a few and all lovely.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 20/12/2021 12:59

It's nice enough. I would spell it Eilis but have met an Ailish or two as well.

Saoirse Ronan's character in Brooklyn was an Eilis/Ailish.

WakeUpLockie · 20/12/2021 12:59

I LOVE it and would use it but we’re as English as it gets.

EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 20/12/2021 13:02

People will think you named her after Billie Eilish.

GuyFawkesDay · 20/12/2021 13:25

@EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad on the basis it's pronounced differently, I'd hope not.

It's a really old Celtic name. Ailish is the Irish version, Eilish the Scottish.

Geminimama88 · 20/12/2021 14:58

Thanks so much for all the positive comments everyone! We have Irish heritage on DH's side so would be going for Ailish! X

I love the name (recall it from Brooklyn) and think it's really pretty.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 20/12/2021 15:03

I think it's fine to spell it Ailish although I wouldn't that's the Irish spelling. The SH ending is an Anglicisation.

irishfarmer · 20/12/2021 15:22

I think the "correct" Irish spelling is Ailís. I know 2 Ailish's both spelt Ailish. But would be 80s/90s babies when a lot of Irish people in Ireland still didn't seem to use Irish names (only going off my own experience in school compared to kids names now).

Either way I think it's a beautiful name

SerenTarot · 20/12/2021 15:25

I think it's a really lovely name.

SingingSands · 20/12/2021 15:29

Lovely name and not heard of much, I have one in my family, we also have an Ailie.

Edenember · 20/12/2021 16:10

Not keen but I’m very much in the minority. I have a general aversion to the ‘ail’ sound.

AhhWoof · 20/12/2021 17:42

Know one who's fab. Great name!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/12/2021 17:46

Really like Ailish but prefer the Ailís spelling! I love Irish names!

Mackmama · 20/12/2021 17:46

It’s lovely Smile

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 20/12/2021 17:49

I love it! Criminally underused :-)

I knew one at school, spelled Ailis. I like it with the h too, though.

The character in Brooklyn was spelled Eilis and pronounced the same.

If you spell it Ailís or Eilís then it would be ay-leesh. So it's without the fada for the pronunciation you want.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/12/2021 18:18

Like it!

Ceramide · 20/12/2021 18:37

I like it.

StColumbofNavron · 20/12/2021 18:40

Love it. I know one and she is one of the most awesome people I have ever met.

WeasilyPleased · 20/12/2021 22:41
