Jack for a boy?

Hi all
First time posting.
Due a baby boy in a couple of months & thinking of calling him Jack. We're not onboard with the new name trends and don't like names that are out there. Want a simple and classic name but not too popular at the moment.
We both love jack however my best friend says it's not a very nice name and very outdated. Is it?
We like jack Alexander / Jack Sebastian or Jack William

We actually came up with the name Jack today as the baby was jumping all around in the scan (jumping Jack)! I think it's timeless and cute.

My son is Jack. Not met any others his age yet but it's all been popular. I think it's a good strong classic name that will still around great when he's a man.

Jumping Jack is such a cute nickname

It’s just a horrible sound, jack. There are much nicer names. But looking at all the other responses, I guess I know jack shit about current trends…

Blush21 · 06/12/2021 21:15

Jack is my number 1 name for a baby boy, mainly due to family links to the name. But I agree, classic strong name that suits boys and men of all ages. Go for it

Love the name Jack.

Mairyhinge · 06/12/2021 21:25

It's such a timeless and classic name! It suits them whatever age.my Jack was 1 of 3 on the maternity ward, but all through school he was the only 1 in his class. He has always ALWAYS suited his name and I've never regretted it. He's 19 now and I'm extremely proud of him. I love how you can't really shorten the name either. He's just Jack.
My daughters name tho I'd change if I could and go back to what I would've called her had I not had some sort of epiphany 3 weeks before she was born 🙄 her names is beautiful but it doesn't really suit her ( think a name that sounds delicate and girly), she's the loveliest person but extremely strong character, strong willed and very opinionated 🤣, not like her name would suggest at all but at 25 she's staying as she is 🥰

One of my favourite names
Jack William is gorgeous 😍

Elisemum · 07/12/2021 20:44

Jack is a very nice name and your friend is a top dick. If I really really didn’t like a name and someone would ask me id say “well I’m personally not a fan but it’s a nice name”
I’d never say oh it’s a horrible name blah blah. Very little class she has.
Jack is nice, classic and nothing to do with a boy being naughty or not!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 07/12/2021 23:20

It is a lovely name and certainly not 'naughty' in the slightest but unless you have worked with children and young people in the last twenty years I don't think you would necessarily realise just how dominant it was for the period 1997-2017. A Jack born in 2022 might not meet many others in school but once he enters the adult world he will be surrounded by men named Jack from the generation above. I recently worked out that at a conservative estimate I have probably taught fifty boys called Jack in my teaching career to date, and I'm not that old.

By all means use it, but the MNers who tell you that there's only one in their child's infant school are rather missing the point.

EishetChayil · 07/12/2021 23:40

Too close to "Jack off."

Fromthebirdsnest · 09/12/2021 00:39

I have a jack Richard named after my grandfather and my husband's grandfather, we toyed with jack charles and jack allister (both family names) and I think they are also very nice ... I do love the name jack there are a few out there though but we use my sons nickname so it doesn't bother us .. I feel it's very classic , congratulations x

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 10/12/2021 11:16

Jack’s a lovely classic name

NotAnotherPushyMum · 10/12/2021 11:23

I have an 18yr old Jack (actually a John-known-as-Jack) and he’s never been at school with anyone else called Jack.

RosieLemonade · 12/12/2021 17:04

I absolutely love it. But I love Titanic and This Is Us!
