Would this put you off a name?

DH has a very common surname. Two of the boys names we like we can't use because one would be the exact name of a sitcom character and the other would be the exact name of a video character. Would this stop you using a name?

Zelda, is that you? Wink

I wouldn’t do it. I know a handful of people with names like that and the hate it.

Foxglovers · 02/12/2021 13:31

It wouldn’t put me off (unless the characters were unpleasant in some way, I actually know 2 people called Tom Jones - so obviously quite a well-known link there! As far as im aware no one really comments?

thewhatsit · 02/12/2021 13:52

Depends how well known. I didn’t even know there were specific naked characters in video games.

thewhatsit · 02/12/2021 13:52

Named not naked!

I've known someone who had this. It always made me laugh but then you forget. Everyone would always mention it though.

IslaInthesun · 02/12/2021 19:33

If it's something like Ian Beale then yes it would put me off

Something like A video game wouldn't bother me

Depends how common the names are, and how much the character is called by their full name. Rachel Green - probably ok, because although Friends is famous the name is common. Jessica Day - definitely ok, because New Girl is not so widely known as something like Friends.

Bart Simpson - no.

Camii · 04/12/2021 21:11

Yes.
Would def put me off.
I would try and find another name. Why risk giving him a name that people can make fun of
