We are struggling to pick a boys name we both really love and it would be nice to get opinions please Smile

Middle name is going to be Robert after family members.

First names we currently like:
Milo
Dylan
Wilfred
Henry
Hugo
Alexander

It feels like a really mixed bag of names but we just can't settle on an absolute favourite. We're all sorted for girls names - why are boys so hard?! Confused

Wilfred, Henry or Alexander for me.
Milo just makes me think of the drink powder and I'm not keen on Hugo. Dylan is ok.

FuggyPidding · 29/11/2021 13:15

My favourite out of those is Dylan.
Least favourites are Wilfred or Hugo.

wingsofabird · 29/11/2021 13:41

Love Wilfred and Milo

Irishfarmer · 29/11/2021 14:24

I don't really like Milo or Wilfred, but I do like Freddie though.

The rest are all nice names I think

vitta · 29/11/2021 14:55

Milo - nice
Dylan - okay, don't really like
Wilfred - too old man for me, prefer Frederick
Henry - lovely
Hugo - too popular at the moment
Alexander - lovely classic

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/11/2021 14:56

Dylan or Alexander for me

MirandaBlu · 29/11/2021 14:58

I really like Alexander (bonus: lots of traditional short forms/diminutives, if you want one). Henry's also pretty classic.

Milo and Wilfred may be having a "moment" that will eventually make them seem associated with a specific time. Dylan may already suffer from this, as it was quite popular in the '90s/00s, especially in the US. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use any of these if you love them, but may make a difference in deciding among multiple names you like equally.

Quite like Hugo, but prefer Hugh.

Theforest · 29/11/2021 14:59

Only Dylan for me from the list

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/11/2021 20:25

Maybe if you can't decide on a favourite OP, you could think about what sort of "style" you prefer - classic/timeless, trendy, vintage, fashionable or more modern?

Agree with a pp - Alexander is a timeless classic (and somewhat of a "can't go wrong" name if it works with your surname imo, as it's popular but not top 10 overused and with lots of nn choices if there does happen to be another one in his class) and Henry is also a classic, albeit one on a bit of a popularity surge.

More modern sounding Milo, fashionable Hugo and (to a lesser extent - at the moment!) retro/vintage Wilfred are all a lot trendier, so may date him more - I personally much prefer classic Hugh and William for that reason.

Dylan is an interesting one as I think it's more timeless in it's native Wales, but does have a more modern, slightly 90's/2000's vibe in other countries.

I really like Milo and Alexander. I think if DH had been in agreement, one of my DS would definitely have been a Milo! Henry is nice too but extremely popular in my area so I know quite a few.

DramaAlpaca · 29/11/2021 20:56

I dislike Milo and Wilfred, but the rest are fine.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 29/11/2021 23:56

All great names OP! Hugo is my favourite.

Theoldwoman · 29/11/2021 23:58

Henry

AdaColeman · 29/11/2021 23:58

Hugo and Wilfred are my favourites.

SummerLew · 01/12/2021 14:34

Alexander is the perfect boy name.

I have a soft spot for Milo and Dylan. Lovely sounds.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/12/2021 21:29

They are all very classic and quite popular.

Henry is way overused so I’d dump that.

Dylan, Milo and Hugo all nice but very of the moment - I’d dump Dylan, and with the others go for the less of the moment Hugh or Miles

Alexander also popular, but classic.. so that’s the other one I might go for, picking Sandy or Alec as a less popular diminutive than Alex

Narnianoon · 01/12/2021 22:02

Milo - I love Miles. Milo could be a nn
Dylan - love
Wilfred - didn't Boris just name his latest kid this? Would definitely put me off
Henry - nice, classic
Hugo - bit posh
Alexander - bit dull

GreenWhiteViolet · 01/12/2021 22:11

I like all of these except Hugo! Wilfred and Alexander are my favourites.

Mumofgirls2017 · 02/12/2021 15:36

Henry and Alexander although they don’t flow as well with Robert… but I wouldn’t choose the first name based on that unless really bothers you as rarely used.
