Hazelelponi / Hazzelelponi (female, means ‘the shade-facing’)
Rehabiah (male, means ‘extent of the Lord’)
Uzai (male, means ‘He’)
Letushim (male, means ‘Hammermen’ or Filemen’)
Jo’nan (male, means ‘Gift from God’)

What do you think of these names? My favourite would have to be Hazelelponi or Uzai.

I know a little Obadiah (Obi), I think Zebulun would be OK (Zeb).

Yay, a biblical names thread!

Biblical names are my very favourite names! Is your friend a Christian? If so then I think she can choose whatever name she wants as long as it doesn't have negative connotations like Jezebel Grin

The biblical names I adore (and would use) include:
Zephaniah (I think Zeph is a gorgeous nickname)
Josiah
Isaiah
Jonah
Nathaniel
Phineas

But not sure if they're rare enough for her!

For a girl, Mahlah and Noa are two cool, strong Old Testament women. I also think Keziah, Iskah/Ishkah, and Damaris are pretty and unusual.

Of the names on your list, I'd use Jonan.

Flutterflybutterby · 28/11/2021 23:24

Moses is my very favourite boy's name, but again, maybe too well known.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/11/2021 23:28

What about Omri?

It automatically makes me think of The Indian in the Cupboard — not that that's a bad thing, but I think of the only time I've ever come across the name in a book.

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/11/2021 23:29

Prefer Hepzibah. I know one, she’s very cool.

Twylar · 28/11/2021 23:31

No

Ikeameatballs · 28/11/2021 23:32

I really don’t like any of them!

KaptainKaveman · 28/11/2021 23:37

Judas?
Barrabas?
Pontius Pilate ?
Herod?
All biblical. I mean, why not? Wink

NewlyGranny · 28/11/2021 23:43

Omri is a nice one - an OT king and the name of the protagonist of Lynne Reid Banks' "The Indian in the Cupboard". The character's brothers are Adiel and Gillon, also OT kings or princes Any of these would work for a C21st baby boy.

My DGF (Born 1879) was baptised Hezekiah, but I don't recommend it. He was always known as Harry...

NewlyGranny · 28/11/2021 23:52

For a girl, Hepzibah or Susannah are not too out there. Dorcas, Eva?

PermanentTemporary · 28/11/2021 23:57

I like Rehebiah too but not sure I would use it...

I think Deborah is due a revival (maybe already having one?) and is a beautiful meaningful Biblical name.
I also like Tamar, Susannah and Ruth for girls. Zipporah not too keen on since she circumcised her son with a flint Confused

For boys I'd say Joel, Linus and Gabriel are still underused though more popular than they used to be.

lunarlandscape · 29/11/2021 00:02

@vampirethriller

Quite like Rehabiah.
What, with Rehab as the nn? Grin?

I do like Jonan if you drop the punctuation.

JessieLongleg · 29/11/2021 00:12

I like Uzai not to much and uncommon.

caringcarer · 29/11/2021 00:34

I think they sound dreadful. Jonah, Noah, Joseph, Moses, Luke, Matthew, James, John, Daniel, Sarah, Rebecca, Mary, Miriam are all biblical names far nicer than the ones you stated.

Zebulun sounds more like an alien than a biblical name to me Blush
SleepingStandingUp · 29/11/2021 23:00

Zebulun sounds more like an alien than a biblical name to me blush DH suggested Zebulon, I thought it sounded like a planet. Zebulon and Arcturis. Planet and Spaceship. We didn't name the twins that in the end

Laureatus · 03/12/2021 23:09

I worked with a girl called Atarah, which is a very beautiful and little-known biblical name. It means crown or crowned one I think.

Edenember · 04/12/2021 08:09

I like many Hebrew / biblical names, particularly for boys. My faves of the moment -
Girls - Orpah, Beulah, Shula, Shoshana.
Boys - Gabriel, Seth, Jesse, Caleb, Zachary, Jorah.
Others - Isaiah, Abel, Omri, Josiah, Ezra, Jonah, Elula.

Edenember · 04/12/2021 08:14

Also Jethro, Amos, Reuven, Ephraim.

bootdilemma21 · 04/12/2021 10:23

@clockledd

They sound made up. I know all names are made up but the first one in particular looks like you've seen the name Hazel and want a unique take on it. Hazeleleleleopopoponi. Not good.
