For a boy we have: Ramsey Mateo John OR Xander Eli John.

John is the name of someone we want to honor.

For a girl we have: Aliza Genevieve OR Anja Cecelia

Uh-lie-zuh and Anya are the pronunciations if you’re unsure.

Honest opinions please!

I'd pronounce Aliza, A-lee-zuh with the A being a hard A like at the end of Jessica.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/11/2021 14:42

Isn't Mateo normally Matteo? It looks wrong the first way.

I quite like Anja, although the Anya spelling is also good.

The only think is you are hopping all over the globe. As far as I can tell; Italian, Russian, American, British, Greek...

Helpstopthepain · 26/11/2021 14:42

Mateo is nice.

Lightningrain · 26/11/2021 14:47

I was also confused at the difference in style between the names.

I much prefer Xander Eli John for a boy.

I like Eliza and to me the way you’re pronouncing Aliza it seems to be the same. I’d spell it with an E just so she doesn’t have to explain it’s like Eliza with an A or correct people all the time when they write it down. I also think people seeing it written down might assume it’s pronounced Ah-leez-a. I’m not as keen on Anja/Anya.

Shasha17 · 26/11/2021 16:07

Aliza is pronounced A-lee-zuh, so if you want it pronounced like Eliza with an A, you'll probably get a lot of mispronounciations. I know 2 little Alizas, it's not unusual in some communities.

If you pronounce it A-lee-zuh I'd choose Aliza Genevieve. If you're pronouncing it how you plan, I'd go for Anja, although I'm not crazy about Anja. I love Aliza (with the traditional pronunciation), Genevieve, and Cecilia! Anja seems a bit plain in comparison but is nice enough.

Shasha17 · 26/11/2021 16:08

For boys, Xander Eli John, 100%. I don't like Ramsey at all.

Kite22 · 26/11/2021 16:15

Well, as you have asked for honest opinions,, then John is the only name I like out of all of those.

SirChenjins · 26/11/2021 16:16

Ramsey Mateo is an unusual combination - are you Scottish/Italian or Spanish? The girls names are the same, but again, maybe you’re both from those countries.

I prefer Xander Eli. Aliza would be pronounced Aleeza here, Eliza would be closer to the pronunciation you’re looking for.

RupertOscar1999 · 26/11/2021 16:17

I like Xander! Will it be short for Alexander or just Xander.

AsleepOnTheTrain · 26/11/2021 16:17

Why do you care what we think!!

TuftyMarmoset · 26/11/2021 16:25

I don’t like Ramsey - it makes me think of the really twisted one from game of thrones.
I don’t like Xander as a given name but I like it as a nickname for Alexander. Xavier is also nice.
I think Aliza is constantly going to be spelt and pronounced wrong. I pronounce Eliza with roughly your preferred pronunciation. So would just go with that.
Anja is ok but a bit dated and Cecilia is nice but that is the usual spelling rather than Cecelia.

Umm it's on the Baby Names board. Which wouldn't exist if people didn't post about... Baby Names.

tbf to the OP, that is literally the point of a discussion forum, and particularly the section of it called 'Baby Names' Grin

John is a nice name

EileenGC · 26/11/2021 18:07

I personally like Xander much more than Ramsey.

Mateo is the correct Spanish spelling for Matteo, which is Italian.

I would also pronounce Aliza like Ah-lee-zah at first.

I really like Anja, although I would spell Cecelia as Cecilia.

gaslady14 · 26/11/2021 18:12

Xander and Anja are nice

Aliza will spend her life correcting the spelling

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/11/2021 18:32

Agree with pp - I'd chose Xander and Anja (or Anya if it's the more common spelling where you live) as I think an Aliza will regularly get Eliza (unless maybe you are in Israel?) and Ramsey doesn't have a very nice sound to me, sorry. Although I should mention that Xander and Anya were main characters (and a romantic couple) on TV's cult Buffy the Vampire Slayer so you may get the odd reference to that!

All your middle names are nice, although again Cecelia and Mateo may sometimes get misspelt (as Cecilia and Matteo tend to be more commonplace - unless you are in Spain for Mateo)
