Mix of Italian & English Baby Names (Siblings)

We are an English/Italian family and considering baby names.

The issue is that we love some very English names and some very Italian names, so we could end up with a very unusual sibling set of names if we have more than one child, which is the plan.

Names we like are:
Elizabeth or Isabel
Anna (which I think is fairly international)
Antonio (but not really Anthony)
Vincent (but not really Vincenzo)
Albert

I can see how it might seem a bit odd for an Elizabeth to have a brother called Antonio -but can Antonio be a sibling name for Isabel and/or Vincent?

Antonio and Isabel would be lovely
Vincent would need to be Vincenzo I think, unless you always used Vinny

Thanks for replying MyNameIsElizaDay. I think you make a very good point! Vincent doesn't go with Antonio. I guess we could use Anthony.

What are peoples general views on Antonio vs Anthony? I must admit it is me who has never been that keen on Anthony.

We have a Vincent for our British/Portuguese baby. They use Vicente as the equivalent. Everyone has always admired its traditional and strong.

Love Antonio and Vincent. Really like Antonia for a girl or Vincenza. Not keen on your other names as they seem bland in comparison

Palavah · 18/11/2021 20:56

Fine to mix, I think.
Alberto?

rubyandbel · 18/11/2021 21:11

How about Isabella?

Thanks all, really helpful

Lucia

I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you're running a clothing brand etc with their names it will be fine. Just choose the names you love.

Elisabetta

Luca is a lovely name. I also prefer Giacomo to Jacob Smile. Chiara, Alessandra and Allegra.
I think you can have a mixture. But I prefer the Italian versions Smile

Rosa and Luca, a winning combo

Love Antonio or Antonia for a girl?

CakesOfVersailles · 18/11/2021 21:32

I think it's fine to mix and match. But I don't think you can really have Anna and Antonio.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/11/2021 21:45

I wouldn’t worry about mixing names like that, they are all part of the European Christian tradition and I’d just assume you were an Italian-Anglo mix, I’d just make sure all the kids get an Italian and an English name in whichever order, so the they can opt for either name if they want to later on.

(Albert has had its day though..Grin)

I must admit, I'd worry slightly in case the child with the English name or the Italian one could feel "hard done by" compared to their sibling (ie. either that their name is too ordinary or that theirs is too "exotic" compared to their brother/sister). Could you do a mix eg. Italian first name and "English" middle or vice versa?

Btw I love Antonio with Isabella or Elisabetta (I really love Antonia too, but like you for some reason I am less keen on Anthony, feels a touch 70's). Anna is also beautiful and I quite like Vincent too (although not the nn "Vinnie/Vince" and Albert is too "old man" for me, sorry).
