Why all the Donald haters?! Are you Scottish? Donald is an unusual name for babies here but still a good solid name!

I like Marie as a classic but underused name and for a boy think Magnus is great.

GoodnightGrandma · 18/11/2021 07:17

I like George and Finn, Celia and Emma.

DoucheCanoe · 19/11/2021 01:01

My favourites are Rowan and Cassie.

Not so keen on Magnus, Donald, Astrid, Polly, Adele, Celia or Juno.

The rest are fine.

I also like Robyn as a unisex name.

BloodyAlarms · 19/11/2021 01:10

Magnus is awesome, though I do wonder what the nn would be.

Your girl names aren't as strong although I like Callie

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/11/2021 01:46

Magnus is awesome, though I do wonder what the nn would be.

Magnus nickname is generally Gus I think, if he has one at all - although I've heard Max used too (as Magnus is related to/same origin as Maximus - the both mean "the greatest").

danidandan · 19/11/2021 11:14

Rufus - love
George - boring
Magnus - love
Finn - lovely but popular
Rowan - see above
Henry - meh bit nothiny
Donald (Donnie) - absolutely not. Prefer a Duggue / Douglas

Astrid - nope!
Polly - bit twee
Rosie - see above
Josie - nope
Bryony - harsh sounding. Not very feminine and reminds me of Brian
Harriet - classic, love it. Hattie for nn
Celia - lovely
Adele - reminds me of the singer. Adelina is much nicer
Callinda (Callie) - absolutely not. Read that as calendar
Cassandra (Cassie) - only fools and horses. Cassie is nice though
Juno - cool name.
Leah - boring
Georgina (Gina) - Georgina is okay. Gina no no
Maria - timeless classic
Emma - see above
Zoe - boring
Tamara - it's okay. Tammy is nice nn
Tamsin - see above
Matilda (Mattie) LOVE. Mattie for a nn not Tilly

WhatHoMarjorie · 19/11/2021 11:49

@Starryskiesinthesky

Why all the Donald haters?! Are you Scottish? Donald is an unusual name for babies here but still a good solid name!

I like Marie as a classic but underused name and for a boy think Magnus is great.

Because at the moment the name is strongly associated with one extremely famous Donald and, not sure if you've noticed, but he's not everyone's cup of tea.
SummerLew · 19/11/2021 13:32

Rufus - bit too consciously hip
George - Lovely
Magnus - Solid
Finn - Cool. A new classic
Rowan - bit flakey
Henry - Nice but plain
Donald (Donnie) Trump

Astrid - Nice, quite hipster. Brother to Rufus
Polly - Appealing alternative to Molly
Rosie - No. Rose nn Rosie
Josie - it's a nickname
Bryony - Nice but bit horsey
Harriet - see above
Celia - Refreshing
Adele - Dated
Callinda (Callie) - This looks made up but I could be wrong
Cassandra (Cassie) - but whiney
Juno - too hip
Leah - dated
Georgina (Gina) - refreshing
Maria - bit dull
Emma - very dull
Zoe - lovely. Classic
Tamara - no.
Tamsin - Okish
Matilda (Mattie) - I really like this but not Tilly

Irishfarmer · 19/11/2021 16:21

Just on the Donald, I wouldn't but how about Donal.

Greendaisydays · 19/11/2021 17:39

I really like at Tamazin as a slightly different option to over used Tamsin though the thoughts of Tammy as a nn put me right off

Twillow · 19/11/2021 17:47

Absolutely not Donald after Trump culture!

Not Magnus unless you have Scandinavian heritage.

Callinda sounds made up.

Not keen on Tamara. Bryony , Georgina, Zoe and Emma wouldn't appeal to me personally because they're heavily used.

Of your list, I love Gina (on it's own), Juno, Josie and Finn.

lottiegarbanzo · 19/11/2021 20:29

I'd choose Magnus and either Tamsin, Astrid or Bryony.

Rowan and Bryony go together well, as both nature names. Both that little bit androgynous too (though I perceive Bryony as very different from Brian really).

lottiegarbanzo · 19/11/2021 20:31

I like Adeline, Rosalind or Josephine too.

LynetteScavo · 19/11/2021 20:39

Rufus
George
Magnus
Henry

Astrid
Polly
Rosie
Josie
Harriet
Juno
Zoe
Matilda (Mattie)

I've deleted the ones I don't like so much and bolded the ones I love.

adrianmolesmole · 19/11/2021 23:30

Finn, Astrid or Polly.

Please don't name your poor child Donald!!!

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/11/2021 23:34

Magnus and Bryony. No question. Know one of each. Brilliant people Smile

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 20/11/2021 01:48

Leah is ok ish don't like any of the others

urbanbuddha · 20/11/2021 02:30

If I was shortening your list in order it would be

Finn
Magnus
Donal not Donald
Rufus

Juno
Astrid
Josie
Tamsin
Matilda (Tilda not Mattie)
Rosie (prefer Rose)
Zoe
Emma
Polly

LozMarieFielder · 20/11/2021 07:48

Rufus - feels like the sort of name I would like, but I don’t for whatever reason (a bit like Reuben). I think it would suit a dog more, but haven’t heard much of it in real life so I’d still be pleasantly surprised to meet one.
George - I definitely see the appeal and why it’s so popular, but it’s not my sort of name
Magnus - absolutely awful sorry, why this is getting popular is beyond me. The ‘Mag’ sound is what is putting me off.
Finn - I really like this name, much much better than Finley
Rowan - I have good associations with the name, but I can’t get past the annoying sound it has
Henry - it’s alright. I think it needs a break though. I probably know a Henry for every age group.
Donald - Even if you ignore the Trump association, it’s pretty awful. It’s like the male version of Bertha or Velma.

Astrid - this isn’t a favourite of mine, but I really like it. I have only ever known one.
Polly - not as cute as everyone seems to think it is. Much prefer Posy.
Rosie - a name in which I will never understand it’s popularity. It isn’t awful, just a bit dull.
Josie - only if it’s short for Josephine. It’s a name that’s growing on me.
Bryony - a bit bleh, the kind of name an author who writes middle-grade books would use when they run out of ideas for the stereotypical main character’s name.
Harriet - very pretty and radiant sounding
Celia - Not bad, why not go with Cecelia? So much nicer
Adele - too strongly associated with the singer, otherwise it isn’t bad but sounds a little melancholy like her songs. I’d probably opt for Adela instead.
Callinda - Callie is a cute nickname but I don’t like the ‘linda’ at the end
Cassandra - I also think Cassie is a cute nickname and on top of that Cassandra is quite nice too
Juno - very cool and spacey, I’ve known one who was rather loud and didn’t exactly suit the name
Leah - I prefer Leia, but Leah is still pretty
Georgina - very cool, makes me think of leather jackets and motorbikes, is definitely one that’s growing on me (plus Gina isn’t a bad nickname)
Maria - was definitely seen a lot more in older generations, but it’s still beautiful and I don’t think it’s dated.
Emma - very nice, completely understand it’s popularity.
Zoe - same description as Bryony but has a nicer sound to it.
Tamara - I used to really not like this name as it made me think of marmalade but come to think of it it’s not that bad. As long as you don’t shorten it to Tammy.
Tamsin - I always have to read twice to know whether it’s Tamsin or Tasmin. They are equally average.
Matilda - probably my favourite on this list. I prefer Tilly as a nickname instead of Mattie but I think it just depends on what would suit the person.
