Is this pretty for a girl or is it old lady?

@hotmeatymilk

Myrtle is about 95, with a blue rinse and hangs out with her old lady friends Gladys and Peggy. She sounds boss, though.

I’m cribbing Agatha, Gladys and Myrtle from this thread if I get knocked up again.

A fearsome set of triplet names!

A few years ago at the doctor's, the name announcer thingy flashed up with 'Arthur Williamson*' to Room 4'. I glanced round for a very old man, and was electrified when a young woman got up with a tiny baby. I'm just about getting used to the old people names being used for new babies. Myrtle, sadly, is a step too far.

*Can't remember the surname so made one up, the key point was first name Arthur.

BlowDryRat · 06/11/2021 14:44

Mirabel is a much nicer name but with a similar sound OP.

DramaAlpaca · 06/11/2021 14:48

Nice on a plant, horrid on a human.

TheCreamCaker · 06/11/2021 15:00

Old lady name. I worked as a carer for years and went to a couple of Myrtles.

Blueberrybuns · 06/11/2021 15:49

I like it!

Viviennemary · 06/11/2021 15:50

Its dire. They'll call her Moaning Myrtle.

What a ghastly name. Please don’t name your sweet child this OP 😢
Surely that should say what a ghostly name! Grin
MintMatchmaker · 06/11/2021 15:55

It’s quite a hard and angry sounding name.

Don't worry, my babies are grown. I just saw the name on a restaurant and with the pictures of myrtle flowers it seemed so sweet. I don't suppose many people see the flower.

I think it’s totally adorable! Although think it depends on the accent - in Scottish accent here where r’s are pronounced I think it’s gorgeous, but it could go a bit muh-tle in some regions which is less attractive.

Rogue1001 · 06/11/2021 21:24

It also rhymes with hurtle.

Just sayin'

Cindie943811A · 06/11/2021 21:31

My headmistress was called Myrtle. She’d be about 120 if she were still alive. Even back in the day it seemed like as old lady name.
And there are prettier flowers — Myrtle has a lot of pollen = hayfever

WeasilyPleased · 06/11/2021 22:50

I once had a budgie called Myrtle. (Shuffles off to bed)

And presumably she stirs her porridge with a spurtle?!

I'm in the comedy name camp - if a character from the Beano were being thwacked by their great aunt for blowing raspberries at the postman, she would definitely be called Myrtle.

Myrtle is a lovely name which is unfortunately no longer usable due to the Harry Potter reference.
Horace is lovely too.

VenusClapTrap · 07/11/2021 08:38

I think it’s really pretty. I’m a gardener though so to me it conjures up the plant.

Marimaur · 07/11/2021 22:39

Slang for vagina where I’m from!

pilates · 08/11/2021 07:13

Turtle sprung to mind. It’s awful.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 08/11/2021 07:19

It just sounds really ugly to me

user1493494961 · 08/11/2021 22:07

I know of a baby Murtle.

BruiserWoods · 08/11/2021 22:12

Whats your accent op?

I know a scottish one who says her name like maretil and it sounds like. But either Muuhtil or Mur'l - nope avoid.

liveforsummer · 09/11/2021 08:25

Yep - moaning came to mind before I even clicked on the thread
