Due in 4 weeks and don't know what the sex is. Really struggling with boys names. I love Alex/Alexander but worry it's too basic/boring. Other names I like but DH isn't that keen on are

Flynn
Ezra

I feel like I've looked at every single name and none of them are working. Any ideas please? Do you think Alex is boring or isit just a good name?

I did like Ralph but ive gone off that now.
Thanks

@FazedNotPhased

Taliesin if you're Welsh? I love that name!

Zach? Jonah? Zeke?

Taliesin is my cat's name. He agrees that it's cool...
sageandbasil · 02/11/2021 15:45

@SirChenjins I adore Magnus and Gus is one of my all time favourite names but fussy dosent like it.

I really like Dominic but it's my husbands name 😂

Haven't heard of Taliesin. I like that.

@Elisemum I'm not looking for a made up name 😂

No - my rubbish DH didn’t either SadAngry

Alexander is great and OI really like Alec, Alex, Sasha and Sandy. Xander is popular.
Because Alex is a classic, it's not going to date badly.

Ezra - I don't like it and it is overused. names.darkgreener.com/#ezra shows how it became very popular suddenly so will be a 'Darren' name (Nothing wrong with Darren but you don't hear about many under 45 yrs old)

Flynn is ok but there are lots of Finns and Finleys, so he'll probably be correcting people

sageandbasil · 02/11/2021 16:04

@WhoppingBigBackside love that 😂 I really like Alec as well, I just like the Al sounds but not
Keen on Alister. Good point about Flynn correcting people. Thanks for the links.

@SirChenjins honestly, no taste!

There's Aled. Perfectly nice welsh name.

sageandbasil · 02/11/2021 16:28

@WhoppingBigBackside I love Aled so much but again, husband dosent like it. Such a shame

Love Alexander! It was joint top of my list with Henry if this baby had been a boy.

SumAndSubstance · 02/11/2021 17:52

I am a teacher and definitely don’t see as many Alexes as I used to. In fact I would say it’s not particularly common among younger children now in my experience (SE England). It’s a good name!

Ruthietuthie · 02/11/2021 18:07

Alex is a lovely name.
When I was naming my child, I wanted him to have an "extra special" name to sort of mark out that I felt he was an "extra special" child (to me, I recognize that everyone's child is special to them!!). Now he is here, I realize it just doesn't work like that. He just IS special, because he is himself. I gave him an unusual foreign name (which reflects my husband's heritage) but part of me wishes I had called him my favorite, quite popular name. It would have really suited him.

20viona · 02/11/2021 18:14

I love them
Both but Flynn edges it

20viona · 02/11/2021 18:15

Alex dull as anythinf sorry!

Libertaire · 02/11/2021 18:18

I like Alexander. It’s a classic name, not a boring one. And, if this matters to you, nobody will think it is chavvy.

Palavah · 02/11/2021 18:19

Fergus?

Palavah · 02/11/2021 18:20

Angus?

Aquamarine1029 · 02/11/2021 18:22

What about Asa?

bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyza · 02/11/2021 18:26

Ezra and Finn are starwars characters so either would be good

RussianSpy101 · 02/11/2021 18:30

Alex is lovely and you could use Zander for a nn?

Blubells · 02/11/2021 18:31

I wanted him to have an "extra special" name to sort of mark out that I felt he was an "extra special" child to me

Choosing a name outside the top 100 most popular names has absolutely nothing to do with 'specialness' Hmm

Parents choose names outside the top 100 for many reasons (having a common surname, having had a popular name themselves etc), but wanting something a 'special' name is unlikely a reason!!

Blubells · 02/11/2021 18:32

Angus is a good suggestion

Luckingfovely · 02/11/2021 18:35

Love Alexander, especially with Zander as nn.

Lemonsyellow · 02/11/2021 19:19

Alexander is a great name.
Flynn and Ezra are nowhere near as nice.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/11/2021 19:37

Love Alexander - timeless classic, very international and popular but not super overused (although obviously it will vary between areas). I'd be using it for my DS if I wasn't personally less keen on Alex (prefer the other nn's as I know a few girl Alex's).

I do like Flynn and Ezra too but they are a lot less timeless/trendier than Alexander.

Sorry, but even though it's classic I'm not keen on Ralph - reminds me of the US slang for vomiting plus there's the Rafe vs Ralf pronunciation confusion.

Ruthietuthie · 03/11/2021 02:52

@Blubells, if you read carefully, 1. I was speaking about my own experience (although in the hope that, perhaps, it might connect to something in the OP's) and 2. I said I was misguided.
Yes, there are multiple things that might influence someone to select a less common name. This was mine.
