We have (potentially) picked a name for baby #2!

Alayah Esme

(Our first daughter is Delilah. We think Delilah & Alayah sound nice together. A little bit similar, which will link the fact they're sisters. My sister and I have that too, with both of our names ending with 'a')

Do you guys like the name?

Yes they sound really lovely together OP.
Good choice

DramaAlpaca · 02/11/2021 01:26

I don't mind the name, but it's much too similar to Delilah. Try calling them out loud, one after the other.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/11/2021 02:01

Sorry, I think it's far, far too similar to Delilah.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/11/2021 03:46

sorry, I don't like it, especially not in combination.
I don't think that picking names for their rhyming qualities is a good move.
"Delilah and Alayah": sounds like a tounge twister

they are individuals. they should have their own distinctive name.
go with Delilah and Esme, they are good together

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 02/11/2021 04:02

I don't, sorry
Alayah is a bit meh. It's all vowels and has no character. Esme is nicer. I also think Delilah and alayah sound a bit daft together. Other 3 syllable names would be better - jemima? Corinna? Katrina?

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 02/11/2021 04:04

Delilah and Alayah sound like the same name reversed, just noticed why they don't sound right.

Namechangedforthethousandthtim · 02/11/2021 05:40

I don't like Alayah. It's a bit nothing-ey and seems a bit made up and faddy. It's just the sort of insubstantial name of which there are loads around at the moment.

Delilah, on the other hand, is pretty but also has a strong history and is a well established name.

The names are too similar and they don't need similar sounding names to link the fact that they're sisters - they ARE sisters, so that's the thing that links them as sisters?

Just choose another nice name that you like, it doesn't need to sound like Delilah.

AuntDympna · 02/11/2021 06:41

Alayah sounds like "a liar".
How about "Aaliyah"?
I think Tallulah and Delilah would be a great pair of names too.

Zarene · 02/11/2021 06:42

No. It's a mouthful to begin with, and with Delilah it sounds faintly ridiculous.

GoodnightGrandma · 02/11/2021 06:43

I prefer Esme.

thewhatsit · 02/11/2021 06:44

I think Alayah will feel pretty short changed next to Delilah as Delilah is such a beautiful name.

TrueRefuge · 02/11/2021 07:21

I'd actually go for Esme Alayah. It's runs much nicer in my opinion.

I love the name Esme.
