Opinions: Freja or Freida (with a middle name Naomi)

Sister to Astrid.
Surname double barrelled but two very common short names (think Smith-Jones)

I thought I was set on Frieda, but I don’t think it goes as well with Naomi as Freja.
(Middle name is a non negotiable)

Any advice greatly received. (Am reluctant to anglicise Freja to Freya, as my family name didn’t work with our names, so would like to keep a bit of heritage going)
Thanks

I prefer Freja “with a j”

Shasha17 · 30/10/2021 00:45

Frieda 100%

toastofthetown · 30/10/2021 07:35

I prefer Freida (though I prefer the Frida spelling). Freja/Freya has been done to death and it feels a bit dull as a result.

Holly60 · 30/10/2021 07:50

Freida. I think I prefer it. Also your daughter would be forever having to specify ‘freja with a J’

Amdone123 · 30/10/2021 07:53

I love Freja.
Frieda I'm unsure about, although it does go well with Astrid.
The popularity of Freja / Freya wouldn't bother me. I never taught one nor do I know any.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/10/2021 21:44

Difficult if you are in the UK as I think both will be misspelt (where as Astrid is straightforward). I think Frida is a much better known spelling here - would that work with your heritage? Frida/Freida Naomi sounds nice to me.

PlainJane1000 · 30/10/2021 21:52

I think both sound good with Naomi and in reality the full name is not said often enough for their flow to have a strong influence in this case. I say choose the first name you like the best.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 30/10/2021 22:04

You shouldn't discount the name you love because the runner up name goes better with the middle name. The two are said aloud together, once every few months maybe? Cannot for the life of me remember the last time I had to tell anyone my middle name.

NiceGerbil · 30/10/2021 22:05

If in UK I'd go Freya for ease of pronunciation and spelling. Can be a pita being misspelt/ pronounced etc.

I have genetic Germanic/ Scandinavian girls names for my two as well!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 30/10/2021 22:06

Having said that if you're canvassing opinion, personally I'd prefer to be called Freja than Freida.

HahahaBoomBoom · 30/10/2021 22:20

Freida Naomi!! Stunning combination x

DramaAlpaca · 31/10/2021 01:17

Freja is a much nicer name than Freida.

Enough4me · 31/10/2021 01:19

Freya

teezletangler · 31/10/2021 03:24

Frieda Naomi is lovely. It sounds a lot fresher than Freja/Freya, but is still a known name.

MerryChristmasToYou · 31/10/2021 07:49

Is the Freida spelling correct? I read it as Fry-da.
The Frida spelling is nicer.

Freja would be nice but there are so many Freyas that it seems dull and she'll be Freja-with-a-J or Frejja

Popsiclestry · 31/10/2021 08:39

Also prefer Frida rather than Freida.

Freak is a bit boring nowadays I think

I LOVE Naomi. Such an underused beautiful name. 😍 Does it have to be a middle name?

Astrid and Naomi go together really well.

Naomi Frida Smith-Jones. 💕

BudgeSquare · 31/10/2021 08:42

FYI Frieda Naomi sounds Jewish to me (I am Jewish and have both those names in my extended family). Probably not an issue for you but just to make you aware

Marcipex · 31/10/2021 09:09

I prefer Frida. I wouldn’t be sure it wasn’t Fry da or Fray da otherwise.

Enko · 31/10/2021 10:30

Freida Naomi rolls nicely of the tongue imo.

I like Freida with Astrid they go together without being obviously a set.

Aspiringmatriarch · 31/10/2021 10:31

Freja is lovely.
