What do you think of the name Cora?

I know a little Cora, full name Cornelia.

I like Cora but I don't like the "corn" part of the long name

lousanne · 29/10/2021 11:56

Cora the explorer

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 29/10/2021 13:14

It's a real 80 year old Irish auntie name.

Kobrakid · 29/10/2021 13:22

I have a Cora. It’s unusual round where we live but still a real name and not made up nonsense. My mum said it was harsh but I ignored her since dp and I love the name.

Santastuckincustoms · 29/10/2021 13:24

I was very tempted to have a coraline and have Cora for short.

DontKnowMyOwnName · 31/10/2021 09:03

With Cora/Coraline/Coralie would people say

Co (to rhyme with toe) or
Co (rhyme with saw) and

Line to rhyme with lean or
Line to rhyme with line?

I think I'd say Core-ah for Cora but Caw-ra-line, if that makes sense?

It's a lovely name, has been on our list for a long time too. It does seem popular on MN but not overly so in real life.

I think you just have to assume people may get it wrong but have a clear way you say it and correct them. I have a name that can be 'ine' at the end but I prefer 'inn' sound and I just correct people.

Pretty name

Blubells · 31/10/2021 10:19

Love Coraline (nickname Cora)!

MerryChristmasToYou · 31/10/2021 10:54

I'd say Coralie/Coraline as Corr-ul-ee/Corr-ul-een
and Cora as Coe-ra.

Not sure about liking it shortened to Co/Cor

TheDaydreamBelievers · 01/11/2021 19:57

Love it. If it didn't crash so horribly with my surname then it would be my number one choice

TeeTotaller1 · 01/11/2021 19:59

Reminds me of Rainie and Tanya's(?) Mum on Eastenders
She had a face like a bag of spanners

TatianaBis · 02/11/2021 10:25

Don’t like it at all. Cora Pearl was a famous prostitute.

Like Cara though.

wavecatcher · 02/11/2021 10:39

Really pretty!

MindyStClaire · 02/11/2021 10:52

I really like it, but I do know a few preschool age girls with that name which might give me pause. It is lovely though.

PompomDahlia · 03/11/2021 16:54

I think it sounds quite harsh. Also surprised it is only top 100 as there seem so many around. It’s quite ‘of the moment’. I’d go for Caroline instead

BiLuminous · 03/11/2021 16:54

Lovely Smile

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 03/11/2021 17:48

It makes me think of a rock 🪨 for some reason

Leeloo1233 · 03/11/2021 18:09

I just read an article that parents are avoiding Cora/Corey etc. names because they sound too similar to corona Shock
