Girls names that go with ......

We are expecting our first child next year. We are going to keep the sex of the baby a surprise but, if we have a boy, we have decided on Evan.

We are really struggling to find a girls name we both like. The only name we both loved is "Elle" but obviously we can't use that if we do use Evan for this or a subsequent child if it's a boy (say them fast together).

I like pretty, feminine but not frilly names such as "Elena", "Julietta" "Evelyn" but DP isn't keen on anything I love. He did suggest "Elodie" but has now gone off it just as it was growing on me.

Any suggestions of pretty girls names that would work well with Evan?

We are both English but our distant heritage is Italian/Welsh.

Surname will be three syllables starting with an H.

Thanks!

I think Evan and Elle would be fine.

While they are both nice names, I hear heaven and hell in my head when I hear them together like that.

Might be my lapsed Catholic past rearing its head but it's what immediately sprang to mind for me.

@youvegottenminuteslynn the "heaven and hell" sound is why we think we can't use both names :)

If you like welsh names then Cerys would work really well.

I have a little Cerys so obviously love the name.

I like the name Elodie, but I know 4 that were born quite recently.

I know an Evan his sibling is Leah.
I also suggest:
Estelle
Astrid
Lucy

I usually think name associations are a bit of a reach on here but I must say it would be something a lot of people would think IMO!

Loads of lovely other names that 'go with' Evan though Smile

You may find you will change your mind completely once baby is born and you see her or him We had a short list of 5 names each and selected one of those fairly quickly.

Eloise and Evan
Eleanor and Evan
Genevieve and Evan

Mabli is the front runner for this baby if a girl.

Babyfg · 09/10/2021 23:22

Totally heard 11 when I said them together (it I didn't put and and in the middle). Could you do a longer name with Elle in it, like Isabelle, Chantelle, Gabrielle, Danielle, Elizabeth

I'd keep away from any names that might end up being El for short (Elodie, Eleanor etc). I think you have to choose Evan OR an Elle/El type name, not both.

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions! It so nice you all took the time to comment.

There are some lovely suggestions. Sadly most of the ones I like have already been used by close friends but there are some I hadn't considered.

How do you pronounce "Eleri" is it like Celery without the C?

Fizzysticks · 12/10/2021 05:48

Eleni, Elana, Cleo, Saskia

KirstenBlest · 12/10/2021 10:42

Eleri is El-ERRy. Rhymes with Kerry.

Cantstopthewaves · 12/10/2021 10:44

Love Evan

My first thought was Rhian/non

MrsHGWells · 12/10/2021 12:07

Arabella, Jemma, Savanna(h)
Evan is a strong, sturdy name, will complement many girls names. Good luck!
