Hi,

What does everyone think of the name Boris?

My grandfather is called Boris and I really like the way it sounds.

And before anyone asks, the association with Boris Johnson doesn’t bother me.

My SILs dog is called Boris. He’s very lovely.
I don’t think it’s really a human name now though.
Johnson has done for it, and it might not bother you but what about your child? I wouldn’t want it as a name tbh.

GemmaRuby · 07/10/2021 13:09

Please no. The association might not bother you, but it might bother your child that people think he’s named after an incompetent racist misogynist.

I don’t love it as a name either, aside from the above.

I actually quite like the name in a vacuum. The Goldfinch association isn’t a bad one. The Boris Johnson association though makes it unusable. It might not bother you, but it might bother your child. Divisive is not really the way to go a child’s name, which is usually one of the first pieces of information they will share with everyone they meet.

Johnson

BishopBrennansArse · 08/10/2021 11:56

Everyone will think it's because you're a huge Tory and/or fancy the PM. Bit if you're not bothered...

ZimZamZoom · 08/10/2021 12:33

Oh hell no!

MadeOfStarStuff · 08/10/2021 19:57

Objectively I don’t like it, it’s along the lines of Barry and Nigel

And everyone will assume you’re a rabid Tory/Bojo’s latest mistress

Cindie943811A · 08/10/2021 20:24

Even when he ceases to be PM there will be constant references to him because his dreadful legacy and failure to lead effectively will be with us for decades. I can imagine what the history books will say.

forestlovr · 08/10/2021 21:31

I'm all for unusual names but cannot imagine calling a little baby Boris, it'll still sound strange when they're a teenager. Probably best as a middle name

tickledtiger · 08/10/2021 21:46

If you’re not bothered about association with the PM then go for it but for me it’s a bit of a titanic-sized negative point. I can’t think of any other problems with the name.

sjxoxo · 08/10/2021 22:01

No from me xo

Thedogscollar · 08/10/2021 22:19

It's an awful name and I'm not saying that because of BJ.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 08/10/2021 22:22

Everyone will think you're one of those weird women who fancies that twat Johnson.

urbanbuddha · 08/10/2021 22:26

No.
Even Boris isn"t called Boris.

unknownstory · 08/10/2021 23:26

No no no

ParkheadParadise · 08/10/2021 23:30

It's a NO from me
Bawbag Boris😜

Pollythecat15 · 09/10/2021 09:51

No. I did quite like it at one time. I had a childhood teddy bear called Boris.
It's been ruined for me by the obvious though.

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 09/10/2021 09:54

Before him it was not great
After him it’s just awful
