Hideously old fashioned? Due a comeback?

I don't want Juliet or Julie so it's this or something completely different

I think it's lovely. Classic, elegant, international, easy to spell.

To those who say it's "dated" - just makes it slightly unusual at the moment. My name became super popular when I was about 20 and I quite like it that it isn't a name that instantly places me in a certain age group.

GreyhoundG1rl · 08/10/2021 11:57

Not sure, really. It's old fashioned, but not in a "classic" way. To me, at least.

TempsPerdu · 08/10/2021 12:49

I do quite like it. It’s classic, elegant, straightforward and not too old-fashioned or dated in my eyes (certainly less common than it was, but that’s not the same as dated).

But (and I know this sounds a bit odd) it’s a very sensible, ‘capable’ sort of name and personally I prefer names that are a bit quirkier and less middle of the road - not ‘out there’ as such, just with a bit more of an edge to them. So I wouldn’t personally pick it, but I’d admire it on someone else.

AuntDympna · 08/10/2021 12:55

Timeless classic.

willowtree81 · 08/10/2021 13:06

It's a really nice name!

furbabymama87 · 08/10/2021 13:14

It's old fashioned but in a good way and I don't think it's dated.

Beamur · 08/10/2021 13:17

All the Julia's I know are lovely.
It's a more elegant version than Julie which is still a tad dated (but I can see coming back).

daisypond · 08/10/2021 14:11

I really like it. It’s one of those timeless, strong, classic names to me.

JudgementalCactus · 08/10/2021 14:13

I think it's timeless, not oldfashioned.
Simple and elegant!

goldenrachita · 08/10/2021 16:04

Juliette seems to be hitting popularity now but I prefer Julia. A really nice choice.

Abetes · 08/10/2021 16:09

Julia is a brilliant, fantastic name. I might be biased tho…

Amdone123 · 08/10/2021 16:26

Love it. Also love the Italian spelling - Giulia.

VanillaAndOrange · 08/10/2021 20:26

I think it's lovely, one of my all-time favourites, and would probably have been my DD's middle name if I'd had one. I like the way it sounds kind of classy but not stuck-up.

olidora63 · 08/10/2021 20:28

A really lovely name .

Darceyhemingway · 08/10/2021 21:24

I find it very boring. Much prefer Juliet

Philandbill · 09/10/2021 18:29

Beautiful. I always think of Julia Flyte.

Clara91 · 09/10/2021 18:50

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches

I like it. I know two little Julias so suspect it must be back already.
Same. Thought it was unusual at first but it's grown on me.
HelenaJustina · 09/10/2021 18:51

Love it

shrugshrug · 09/10/2021 18:52

I prefer Julie, Juliette or Julie Ann.
Though I knew the nicest Julia.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/10/2021 21:21

If you are interested in hearing from a Julia - I've always really liked my name. I've only ever met a few others (of different ages to me - I'm 40), it's rarely ever been in the top 100 yet everyone knows how to say and spell it and it's well used internationally too.

Its also very classical and timeless- as well as it's Roman origins it's mentioned in the Bible and used by authors like Shakespeare, Austen, the Bronte's, Dickens...

Only possible negatives for me growing up were the lack of nn's (I never got called Jules, that seemed to be more for Juliet's?) and that occasionally older people call me "Julie" by mistake (I've met quite a few Julie's in their 60's - it seems that version of the name was more popular).

35andThriving · 11/10/2021 09:58

I like it. I would say it was a timeless classic.

DrunkenUnicorn · 11/10/2021 10:06

As another Julia, I love it. As a pp said unusual enough not be one of many in a class but everyone knows how to pronounce/spell it. It’s classic.

Cheermonger · 11/10/2021 10:10
