Impossible surname

Our surname is Coe.
We’re having a boy in a few weeks and I can’t find a single name I like at all. Everything sounds like a company name!

Nothing with an O sound seems to work. Nor does anything ending in a C or K. Most boys’ names are one syllable and sound ridiculous.

I can see why Sebastian Coe’s mum went for that! It actually sounds alright. It would be on my list if it weren’t for him being well known.

Please help!

DH likes Edward and Isaac but I don’t love either and don’t think Isaac works at all.

I like Theo, Luke and Gabriel but DH doesn’t like them or they don’t work.

I definitely think it needs a longer name. Just avoid Simon in case it's shortened to Si 😁

Don't worry to much. I have a one syllable surname and my boys have classic names like your choices. I'd say they're snappy names but simple to convey (in a good way).

It is a tricky name, and I think one of the worst for nearly slipping you up because combinations can seem totally I k for a while until you realise it makes something silly.

I like Edward, Rupert, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Matthew, Daniel, Fraser, David, Peter.

I think as long as the shortening doesn’t make a ridiculous word, I think you’re slightly overthinking (Ed Coe is perfectly fine)

Jeremy as a more unusual one.

Breaking the “O” sound rule, I actually quite like Logan Coe.

Yes absolutely, are people going to remember him all your sons life? It's a great name, don't let him hog it!

Reuben is lovely! I also love Sebastian but I have to say, he’s so well-known I would probably avoid it or use it as a middle name.

Lucas Coe sounds lovely. As does Gabriel Coe!

My great grandfather was Cornelius Coe (born around the 1850’s) I always thought it was a great name! Although it probably is a bit too dated.

I love Cornelius Coe but I’m concerned our DS wouldn’t once he’s a bit older! What an awesome name!

I came on to say Reuben

I also think Ethan or Xavier would work well.
I’d use a 2 syllable name as it is less likely to be shortened than any of the longer names.

The best longer name I can think of is Alexander as it would be shortened to Alex which still sounds good

Ooh I really like Theodore Coe, also it doesn't shorten to one syllable which is a bonus. I also like Arthur Coe.

Lucian was the first name that came to mind

To those saying Theodore (which I like) - doesn’t Theo Coe sound a bit weird? A bit of a tongue twister? That’s my concern.
