Help! Not sure if I love the name

DS isn’t due until December so we still have about 2 full months before we name him!

We wanted to pick a name now to agree on but would still be open to change it when he’s here if we didn’t want to name him that (we had quite a few names we like)

However, we’ve picked this name and I’m calling my bump it and so is DH but I just don’t feel it? I don’t know if it’s because he’s not here yet or I can’t imagine what he’ll be or look like so can’t attach the name to him - but is this normal?

I don’t feel fully right when I call my bump it or when I hear it I still just see it as ‘provisional’

Do I just scrap trying to pick a name now and keep a list to chose from when he’s here?

And if you were in this position was it easier to name the baby once they arrived?

I named 2 of my DSs before birth and the names felt normal. DS3 DH vetoed the name at the last minute and it was almost 6 weeks before we settled on anything. He didn't look like any name, just a squirrel!

@Yondergoat I did ask DH and he said it feels normal! So is this a sign I’ve went off the name?

Not really expecting our newborn to look like a name but I’m finding it so hard to settle on one!

We picked a name but didn't call the bump it until we had seen baby then decided yes that was their name.

What name have you picked , is there a nickname that sounds more babyish for example

Me & OH have only ever agreed on one baby name. It was for a boy & we had a boy so it was obvious.

We both loved the name when he was born but it still felt weird calling him it. Nothing to do with the name itself though.

I think it just takes time for it to "sink in" for some people even if you do like it. You might be like us.

The name does have a nickname (just the name shortened) which I loved but now we’ve picked it it just feels odd saying it?

Maybe it is a case of things sinking in, I still get surprised when I get a massive kick!

I’m not too stressed as he will be named eventually but this made me wonder if it’s a normal feeling or if I am in fact starting to not like the name

We had two names in mind for dd. We called my bump Smudge though. We played songs with the names in and she kicked loads on one so we named her that. Even then we still called my bump smudge up to the day she was born. I think we knew when we saw her if she'd suit the name and she did.

We had a list of names then chose when we’d actually seen the baby.
