Luella is a name I am really, really fond of. I just put a thread up about naming baby girl after nan however, if we don't go for that name we're thinking of Luella🤍 what do you think x

My friend has a Luella and she is the most gorgeous and wonderful little girl. I think it's a beautiful, unusual name. It can be shortened to Lulu which is sooo cute Smile

Spindrifting · 26/09/2021 22:43

I think it has a hillbilly vibe.

BubbleCoffee · 26/09/2021 22:50

I like other names which end in Ella, but am not keen on the Loo sound.

Kitkat151 · 26/09/2021 22:59

My Mums best friend is called Luella....she 75 and grew up in Canada where she said it was a popular name

ManifestingJoy · 26/09/2021 23:01

No. It's a bit weak sounding. A bit billy-rae married his cousin luella.

Nonameslefttochose · 27/09/2021 03:00

Luella is okay, I’d say much better than naming a child after her grann…

seaandsandcastles · 27/09/2021 03:06

Never heard of it before but I think it’s very pretty Smile

alexdgr8 · 27/09/2021 03:11

sounds like part of a name of a disease.
so, no.

As a Canadian, I've literally never heard of this name, so I'm surprised. Makes me think of Cruella.

Elisemum · 27/09/2021 03:43

@alexdgr8

sounds like part of a name of a disease. so, no.
Ok now when I read this YES it does. It’s like salmonella, rubella etc. Also someone said it’s like Cruella.. sorry but it’s also bad 😬
ducksalive · 27/09/2021 04:18

I did think of Cruella but I recently saw the new film so it was maybe front of mind.

Mumblechum0 · 27/09/2021 04:33

Only if you live in a swamp in Louisiana

manhattenrain · 27/09/2021 05:31

It's a beautiful name.

You're right, it makes me hear the Be Good Tanyas version of 'Lakes of Pontchartrain' in my head.

Teakind · 27/09/2021 09:31

I’ve never heard it before but actually really like it.

LaBellina · 27/09/2021 09:33

Sounds like Cruella. Esspecially with the movie coming out recently. Sorry.

How about Luana ?

tickledtiger · 27/09/2021 09:42

It’s got Lulu as a nickname so that’s a yes from me

daisypond · 27/09/2021 09:44

Not keen. It has hillbilly vibes to me.

Leafytrees · 27/09/2021 09:55

I really like it. Think it sounds quite elegant.

tuxedocat · 27/09/2021 10:02

Luella has always been one of my all favourite girl names after the fashion designer.

I think it’s pretty and suits all age ranges from baby to a grown adult.

user14597 · 27/09/2021 10:13

Luella is fine in the context of the current name fashions (a lot of names ending in '-ella' plus various Lulu Lola Lilly type names around). Not nearly as hillbilly as all the Ella-Mae type stuff that is massively mainstream now.
I don't think anyone will particularly take against it (although plenty of pps do!).
I like the name on your other post though!

Darceyhemingway · 27/09/2021 10:28

Such a pretty name I really like it

LittleGwyneth · 27/09/2021 10:40

I love it. It sounds like a new name but I remember being surprised when I Googled it ages ago to discover that it's an 1800s name.

SpamIAm · 27/09/2021 11:14

Sounds like a contraceptive pill.

alligatorpeardrop · 27/09/2021 11:17

What! You lot have never heard of the British designer Luella Bartley Shock
