Was Jarvis' first choice for the name of the girl in Disco 2000, which makes sense of the lyrics. The fact that Pulp had also, er, 'borrowed' the hook from Laura Brannigan's AMAZING hit of the same name put paid to that...

Love it

RickOShay · 23/09/2021 20:51

I love the name Gloria and honestly don’t understand why it isn’t more popular. Ditto Emerald.

TheWonderCat · 24/09/2021 12:23

Awful, as is Wendy and Hazel. I don’t understand the love for Hazel. Heather out of your list, at best. It’s like an 80s revival.

Wellonlyifihaveto · 24/09/2021 12:27

Calling Gloria, Gloria Gloria, I think they got your number 🎵

FiveIsMoreFun · 24/09/2021 12:52

I love it.

@Skyla2005

Is this a joke ? Must be
It is a bizarre list.

None of those names are remotely similar in style or nature and I can't think that one person could be considering such vastly different names for one child.

One is a dated middle-aged name that several people in my school year had.
One is the name of a US restaurant and/or a character from a story.
One is strongly Irish.
One has hints of Romance languages/Hispanic.
One is a traditional English name based on nature.

Of the list, I know one real-life vile bully so am too biased to comment.
I still don't understand how the list was compiled. Is there a reason for picking these disparate names, OP?

RiotAtTheRodeo · 24/09/2021 14:21

I love Gloria. Much better than the other names on your list.

NigellaSeed · 24/09/2021 16:06

I like Gloria and maeve. Hate Wendy and Hazel. Heather is okay.

Please don't call your kind Wendy

furbabymama87 · 24/09/2021 16:07

Heather is the nicest out the list but don't love it. Wendy is horrible, Gloria is naff.

evilharpy · 24/09/2021 16:13

I associate Gloria with a primary school teacher I adored in the late 80s. Also love the song and some of the cover versions (John Lee Hooker and Jimi Hendrix). So I've always really liked the name.

Maeve is ok, really dislike Hazel and Heather.

peaceinourtime · 24/09/2021 16:24

Gloria- no it sounds very dated
Maeve- I don't really like it
Hazel- Nice
Heather- ok
Wendy- I like it

DrillHammerChisel · 24/09/2021 16:26

I knew of a 3 year old Gloria, she was the sweetest thing.

melonhead · 24/09/2021 17:11

Wendy sounds like such a drippy name. Gloria is really ballsy! I love it

FlamingoDust · 24/09/2021 18:37

I really like it!

DFOD · 24/09/2021 18:45

Love, love, love Gloria - sounds confident, different and magnificent!

Agree ahead of the curve and due a revival …. along with names like Margot and Delores

DFOD · 24/09/2021 18:46

Agree with PP that it’s just not in line with any of the other names on the list as they are all (IMHO) insipid and dull.

Go Glo!!

garlictwist · 24/09/2021 18:48

Nooooo.

Gloria is a late middle aged woman with bouffant hair and a large hefty bosom who leads the WI with an iron fist.

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/09/2021 19:11

I love Gloria, really like it. I also love the slightly more frilly Gloriana

Maeve lovely name. I also love Mavis
Hazel - gorgeous. I thought it was about to take off in a big way a few years ago though as I met loads of newborn Hazel's but not heard it again

Heather - it is pretty but just seems very dated, not in a good way yet
Wendy - it could grown on me. The only one I know is a bit drippy (and in her 30s) which puts me off a bit but I feel I could grow to like it on an adorable toddler

RaoulDufysCat · 24/09/2021 23:07

Gloria is an excellent name.

Maeve is OK. Hazel is lovely. Heather and Wendy are horrid (Wendy worst by far).

Joolsin · 24/09/2021 23:09

Love the name Gloria.
