A classic girls name that can be shortened

Our daughter is called Penelope but now she's older prefers to be called Penny.

I'm pregnant with another girl and would like to do the same again. Give her a classic name with an option of shortening it if they'd prefer (pretty sure dd has shortened hers because it's less hassle to write on the back of worksheets in school.)

My favourite it Elizabeth/Lizzie but dh absolutely hates that name so it's off the table.

Does anyone have any ideas for other similar names?

I do also really like Esther but I'm not sure what that shortens to and also have a sneaking suspicion I might be pronouncing it wrong.

Love the Greek names up thread. We have long names that can be shortened too. How about

Isabella / Bella / Ella / Izzy
Charlotte / Lotta / Lottie / Charlie
Katherine / Kate / Katie

Teresa (Tess, Tessa, Terry)
Melissa (Mel, Lissie)
Theodora (Theo, Teddy, Dora)
Anthea (Annie, Thea)

Or would you DH consider Eliza?

I have a Louisa Lily. We shorten her name to Lulu. Smile we also have a Hannah Rosalie, but she is always just Hannah.

I would shorten Esther to Essie

If you like Elizabeth but your husband doesn't, what about Elspeth?

I have an Esther and she is often shortened to Essie. She goes by her full name at school though as she prefers it. I am forbidden to use Bessie or Boo anymore unless it is bedtime!
