Thoughts on this name? I realise some do not like ‘nicknames’ as first names, but that does not really bother us! We have really struggled to find a name, but think we have found one we both agree on but just wanted to get some last minute feedback!

Surname is welsh, Gw……

It's a name for a pet or small child. I feel sorry for all these future Tilly, Daisy, Summer and Poppy's in their adult lives.

I don't like it. It's weak sounding. And makes me think of a checkout till. Not an interesting reference point at all.

Onlypostnowandagain · 19/09/2021 15:37

I love it!

subjektive · 19/09/2021 15:59

Is Tilly a a nickname of a nickname?

Matilda -> Tilda -> Tilly?

ThisThreadCouldOutMe · 19/09/2021 16:05

I love it. Its a "real" name. Its on my nieces BC. Therefore its real because its hers. Im not a fan of Matilda for a totally pathetic reason.
She usually gets shortened to Tills.

Mymapuddlington · 19/09/2021 16:07

I know a Tilly who is a young adult now, it makes me think of posho nicknames or a cat for some reason 🤔

MrsBungle · 19/09/2021 16:16

I’m not a fan of Tilly. Or Milly. Twee and dreary.

whatausername · 19/09/2021 16:37

It sounds weak and nothingy but it's inoffensive

Mymapuddlington · 19/09/2021 16:38

@MrsBungle I though those were 4 names you didn’t like then, meet my friends, Tilly, Milly, Twee and Dreary. Lol

TheWonderCat · 19/09/2021 16:46

It’s twee. It’s a name for a pet or a toddler. It’s just a nothing name.

MrsBungle · 19/09/2021 22:58

@Mymapuddlington to be fair, Dreary and Twee are worse than Tilly Grin

SunbathingDragon · 19/09/2021 23:03

If you like it, then that’s good enough.

There are other options though and if you aren’t keen on Matilda, you could opt for Ottilie or something else.

If I ever have quads that's what I'm going to call them Grin

Unsure1983 · 20/09/2021 00:36

So insubstantial.

groovergirl · 20/09/2021 08:18

Vapid. OK for a pet puppy, maybe. Give her Matilda. She'll thank you for it.

A PP suggested 'Teleri'. I've never heard of that name, but I do like it!

EdgeOfTheSky · 20/09/2021 08:24

I love Tilly!

PricklesTheHedgehog · 20/09/2021 08:25

Ottilie or Matilda, nn Tilly = lovely

Tilly as birth certificate name = insubstantial

Snoopsnoggysnog · 20/09/2021 08:30

Agree with everyone else. It’s really insubstantial.

Matilda, Tilda, Ottilie are all great.

I also dislike Millie / Milly for the same reason.

RevolvingPivot · 20/09/2021 08:46

Why feel sorry for them? If there are so many it won't be such a big deal for them will it?

I wonder what your children are called?
