Baby girl name advice!

Hi! We are getting very close to our due date and can't decide on a baby girl name. We are currently between Holly and Isabelle. Isabelle is husbands slight favourite, but it's the name of my cousin (she is in her early 20's, see her prob twice a year) but that's slightly putting me off choosing it... any thoughts between the two?!

Hi OP. Both are lovely names to me so it's a tough one...lots of Isabelles an Isabellas so I'd be inclined to go with Holly to bring it back.
Do you have a middle name that suits one over the other or does your surname fit with one of them better?

bloominglovelyorange · 17/09/2021 12:39

I absolutely love Holly
It's such a great familiar name yet so underused! I'd definitely pick Holly

Wole · 17/09/2021 12:40

Holly

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 17/09/2021 12:41

I like both but I would say Isabelle is much more popular. Saying that one of my DC has 3 Hollys in their class…

BeKindBeYou · 17/09/2021 13:25

Holly! I love it

emmathedilemma · 17/09/2021 13:37

Isabelle is popular and if there's already one in the family or close circle of friends you can almost guarantee she'd be known as "baby Isabelle" well beyond her baby years!
Holly Isabelle works fine so you could use them both.....

SummaLuvin · 17/09/2021 15:07

This is interesting and shows how localised name trends are, I don't know of any child/baby Isabelles but a fair few Hollys.

I think Isabelle is a nicer name of the two, I personally prefer spelling Isabel or Isobel. Holly is quite a bland name in opinion.

Elisemum · 17/09/2021 18:07

Both names are lovely, I have no idea how people manage to name baby girls! There are hundreds of lovely girls names, but no nice boys names :)

DominicRaabsTravelAgent · 17/09/2021 18:11

Lots and lots of Isabelle/Isobel's abs every other connotation around here. I only know one Holly.

They are both lovely names but as you already have one in the family, I'd go for Holly Smile

Happenchance · 17/09/2021 19:03

I love Holly. It helps that all the Holly's that I've met are lovely and driven.

Standrewsschool · 17/09/2021 19:06

If you name her Isabel, people may assume you’ve named her after your cousin.

Annabelle/Annabel as an alternative?

BikeRunSki · 17/09/2021 19:11

Holly is a bit of a cliche for a child born around Christmas.

wombforanotherone · 17/09/2021 20:30

Holly.

Isabelle/Isabel/Isobel/Isabella/Bella/Belle/Izzy are so ubiquitous. It's so boring. I also find it a very twee name.

It can be but the only one I know was born in August Grin

Dancingonmoonlight · 17/09/2021 20:36

Isabel!!!

thanks all for your input!! It's great to get some other opinions :)

I think both are good but I can see how your cousin having the same name would put you off for that reason Holly seems the better fit.

Freya2456 · 20/09/2021 09:23

I love Isabelle but maybe more for a middle name due to how common it is. I don’t think I would name my baby the same name as my cousin either, a bit annoying at family events! I’d go with holly :)
