I love them both, both classic, strong names. I think Madeleine (spelt like that tho) might edge it… just, because I don’t like Ellie and you run the risk of Eleanor being shortened to that!

Thank you for all your repliesSmileThis is my first baby and naively it's never dawned on me before how big of a responsibility it is choosing a name!

Madeline is the traditional English spelling of the name. Madeleine is French, not 'the right way'. Both spellings are fine.

Madeleine. As lovely as Eleanor is it is yet another El- name. Madeleine would feel a little different.
