Which boys name is best.. unique or popular..

Which name works best for our DS.. we are going with either the more unique Leandro (“Leo” for short) or the more popular Luca. Leandro is Spanish so aligns with husbands heritage, but may be difficult for people to pronounce / spell. Worried Luca is too popular on the other hand.. but it is easy to spell! Thoughts?!

Leandro. I really like it, and I'm sick to death of Luca. I really don't think people will have a problem with spelling or pronunciation.

Leandro doesn't seem that hard to pronounce or spell. I personally prefer more unique names to give a child a bit of individuality. Better than being 1 of 3 Lucas in a class. My niece was in school with 5 Poppys.

Thanks guys, are there already lots of Luca boys out there? I wasn’t sure if it was still not that popular yet.. although the new Disney movie does worry me that it’s popularity may increase…

I like Luca but Leandro is gorgeous.

Luca is in the top 50 and still rising quickly so it’s popular at the moment. As it’s so well used already, I don’t think the movie will make too much difference as the name is already rising quickly. I’d go for Leandro over Luca. It’s pretty intuitive to spell so I can’t see that being a big issue. There are also nickname options if he wants.

Both lovely but I really love Leandro/Leo! However to buck a trend, I’ve never come across a small Luca but I know several Leos between 0 and 5.

Leandro/Leo is great. I'm not keen on Luka, much prefer the more straightforward Luke.

I dobt like luka and I always hear that awful vega song my name is Luca whe I hear the name.

Leandro is amazing on the other hand and Leo very anglicised so he can pick the best of both cultures as he wishes

Leandro. Too many Luca s about and I always think it's a bit feminine

I like Leandro, I’m in Australia and I know an adult Leandro, i like the name and I’ve never heard of anyone else with the name

I think Leandro is lovely, not difficult and Leo is a lovely shortening

Leandro for me too. Nice-sounding, unusual but not weird, and unless you are about to reveal it's actually pronounced Keith/Dave/Wayne/something else that is un-guessable from the spelling, then he won't have many troubles with people mispronouncing/spelling it.

So why am I still craving Luca… 🙈🙈🙈

Leandro is more unusual, but Leo is fairly common. I think Luca is lovely, and although it is popular it is no more so than Leo, what about Lucas or Luke? Or Lawrence/Laurie? Or Lorenzo?

I do like Lucas and Luke but hubby doesn’t like those variations.. thank you for the suggestions though!

I prefer Leonardo/Leo, but Luca is nice too. I wouldn’t worry that Luca is “too popular”. You will never please everyone, one name is too popular, another name is too “weird” or “made-up”… is there even a middle ground that suits everyone?:) both are nice names, the choice is yours

LOL Elisemum, it’s so true! One name is too popular and another is too weird, you really can’t win! I still haven’t decided but trying to focus on what I actually prefer and ignore the rest - thank you all!

Definitely Leandro. Doesn't seem difficult to say at all! Luca is a bit overdone

I actually misread Leandro for Leonardo. I prefer Leandro over Luca
