I recently heard of a baby girl called Halliday, nickname Hallie. I love it. What do you think?
Honest thoughts only please!

Do you like it?

Ffs if you like it use it

Maskless · 03/09/2021 21:53

I recently read a true crime book that included a murderer called Halliday.

Classica · 03/09/2021 21:53

I don't find it particularly out there. Halliday is a surname and surnames as first names are very much a thing. I can imagine a preppy American college girl called Halliday.

Holliday would be weirder but even that works well on Holliday Grainger.

TheRebelle · 03/09/2021 22:06

Would you want to be called it yourself? Imagine having to spell it out to everyone you meet and correct them when they say Holly, every. single. time.

I be would think the person meant "Holiday" or "Hallie" as first is a common word which people associate with good times and the second is a common name.
KnottyKnitting · 03/09/2021 22:21

I knew a little girl with Cypriot parents called Halide.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/09/2021 22:26

I suppose it's no different to similar surnames like Cassidy used as girls first names, although it's not my personal taste. Only issue like pp mention is that you may get people mishearing it as "Holiday" - especially if actress Holliday Grainger becomes even better known.

HappyDaysToCome · 03/09/2021 22:31

It was one of my grandma’s middle names, I’ve no idea why and neither did she (Scottish with surnames as middle names). But I’d have quite liked it as a middle name for a DD.

I think it’s quite nice as a name. Not a fan of Hallie though.

Enough4me · 03/09/2021 22:49

I don't like it but Hailey, Holly, and Heidi are lovely.

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 03/09/2021 22:53

Love it.

miltonj · 03/09/2021 23:01

I like hallie but not Halliday

DramaAlpaca · 03/09/2021 23:13

I don't like surnames as first names on girls, so it's a no from me.

whatausername · 04/09/2021 01:59

Nothing wrong with it per se but, to me, it's a bit of a mouthful and rather ugly and naff.

SilverConvention · 04/09/2021 02:33

I really like it.

Catlover77 · 04/09/2021 02:33

I like Halide (not your made up spelling though)

Famousinlove · 04/09/2021 02:51

Are you planning to copy the name?

FourForFore4 · 04/09/2021 03:41

There is a British actress called Holliday Grainger, that was my first thought on reading the name.
I think it sounds pretty.

Elisemum · 04/09/2021 08:01

God no, sorry but no. Why would people do that to their child? Please remember you are naming a person that will go to school, will have professional career in the future etc. Not a pet.

Lockdownpudding · 04/09/2021 08:05

I came on to say exactly the same.

I like Halliday, nn Hallie.

Palavah · 04/09/2021 08:12

I normally am not a fan of out-there names and surnames for first names but i quite like this one!

CaMePlaitPas · 04/09/2021 08:21

I would assume you were a massive Johnny Halliday fan.

Onlinedilema · 04/09/2021 08:29

No worse than any other surname type name.

felulageller · 04/09/2021 08:37

It's fine, a bit like Kennedy.

People saying it's like Holiday aren't very good at pronunciation.

Ginandplatonic · 04/09/2021 08:41

I actually don’t mind it - and I normally hate
surname-y American style names.

furbabymama87 · 04/09/2021 09:52

I don't like it. I don't like Hallie either but it's not as bad. I've known 2 children called Hallie/ Halle over the last 10 years, so it's not crazy bad, but Halliday is a bit weird.
