Too similar for cousins?

We are still trying to decide on names and don't know if we're having a boy or girl so need to think about both!

For a boy we both like the name Evan. However my husband has a little niece who is called Evie. It didn't occur to me until now but do you think the two names are too similar for cousins?! He doesn't think they are but I'm not too sure!

It's fine

GoogleWhacked · 01/09/2021 22:01

I don't see them as alike at all, start with two letters the same but pronunciation different.

Pemba · 01/09/2021 22:01

I think it's OK because the start of each name is different enough as it's 'Ev-un' with a short 'e', but Evie is 'Eev-ee' with a long e sound. I would say if you love Evan, go for it.

helpmum2003 · 01/09/2021 22:15

Not a problem.

scrivette · 01/09/2021 22:17

It's fine, my brother and cousin have the same first name and it hasn't ever been a problem.

OnceTheyDid · 01/09/2021 22:30

Nothing alike.

Evan is a great name

SadWife2020 · 01/09/2021 22:50

I think this is fine - go for it!

DarkDarkNight · 01/09/2021 22:55

I think it’s fine especially with them being a boy and a girl.

If it was two girls called Evie and Edie it would bother me a bit more, but to be honest they’re just cousins, they’re not going to be tied to each other for life.

PlainJane1000 · 02/09/2021 03:06

Another one saying its fine! I don't think the sound is similar.

NiceGerbil · 02/09/2021 03:13

It's fine.

Kanaloa · 02/09/2021 03:31

I think it’s ok! Too much for siblings but fine for cousins, especially since they are pronounced differently.

I have a cousin with the same name as my younger sister, they were born very close together. When we were small we called them ‘big Jenny and little Jenny’ even though big Jenny (my cousin) is only about a week older!

SundayTwizzle · 02/09/2021 05:20

Definitely absolutely fine!

Hekatestorch · 02/09/2021 05:21

Another one whose brother and cousin have the exact same name.

It wasn't ever really an issue. I think its fine

LiveSimply · 02/09/2021 06:43

Absolutely fine!

TheGrassIsGreenerish · 02/09/2021 06:46

It’s completely fine

Helpmetopickone · 02/09/2021 06:48

Another with cousins and sibling with the exact same name. As pos

thismotherhoodthing · 02/09/2021 07:26

Thanks all! Sounds like I may be overthinking this one a bit!

It's absolutely fine. My mother has the exact same name (first and middle!) of a first cousin. It's not even weird. It's just normal.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 02/09/2021 11:12

I think it’s fine. I have an Elliott who has a cousin called Elinor which I was not sure if it’s too similar but everyone I asked said it was fine and no one has ever mentioned it.

Meadowflower88 · 02/09/2021 11:27

I think it's fine, I have cousins called Kate and Katherine.

bloominglovelyorange · 02/09/2021 13:56

Absolutely fine
Lovely name

HoldingTheDoor · 02/09/2021 14:10

It's fine.

Crunchymum · 02/09/2021 15:41

I know first cousins who are Kerry and Kelly (less than a year apart too and good friends)

Gemma and Emma (again close in age)

James and Jamie (not as close in age)

Joseph and Josephine (very close in age and both very recently born and caused a bit of family drama)

Evan and Evie arent in the same league

*Joseph is a Joseph and not yet a Joe.

thismotherhoodthing · 03/09/2021 10:40

Thanks everyone! Seems like it's a non issue! Smile

Sorry meant to say I have a cousin and brother with the exact same first name. Never been an issue. I don’t understand the cousins can’t have the same name.
