What do you think?
Front runner for our daughter due soon!
Another option is Cosima

Thoughts on a postcard...

I've got an Octavia!
Born 8/8/8
Ever outting, I'll have to name change now.

brushlaptop · 31/08/2021 21:34

@BeenThruMoreThanALilBit I do live in Chelsea 😂😂🙈

She's due on the 8th October but that's the only connection to 8. Also unlikely to arrive on her due date... though I have heard of this magically happening before

I mean, if you’re not worried about clichés, or approve of this one, then Cosima sounds like a slam dunk for you!

I was also going to ask about an October connection. I don’t think 08/08 is necessary, but October is a nice reason for Octavia/Ottavia.

brushlaptop · 31/08/2021 21:42

@BeenThruMoreThanALilBit haha, no that doesn't worry me, I still just can't decide which name I actually prefer 😂

They're nice ish names but unless you or DP are italianate they are both are a bit try hard pretentious- in the category of India or Chardonnay. Sorry OP.

HoldingTheDoor · 31/08/2021 21:44

I find it awkward to say. Every time I sound it out, I want to say Octavia instead.

MrsFin · 31/08/2021 21:46

Octavia is pronounced Oc-tay-via
Ottavia would be pronounced Ott-ah-via.

I prefer Octavia, along with most other PPs I think.

RuthW · 31/08/2021 21:56

I've never heard of the name before. I thought it was a spelling mistake .

brushlaptop · 31/08/2021 22:07

We do have Italian heritage but no longer speak Italian. I have an Italian name and want my daughter to have one too :)
Yeah know what you mean with confusion with Octavia!

I like Octavia better than Cosima, but both nice. Or Cassia?

Ottavia - easy to like if you don’t have to live with it, she’ll spend the rest of her life correcting people. And some people will think she’s a car..

OverByYer · 31/08/2021 22:23

I’d think you couldn’t decide between Octavia or Ottillie so combined the two

ElizabethTudor · 31/08/2021 22:26

Much prefer Octavia.
I think Ottavia will frequently be misspelt, so that would annoy me.

FartnissEverbeans · 01/09/2021 03:53

I love both Octavia and Ottavia and had them both in my list (I’m having a boy though!).

I like Ottie as a nickname

Asherline · 01/09/2021 04:01

Oh-Tay-veeya? Is that how it's pronounced? Never heard the name before but sounds absolutely lovely to me

Asherline · 01/09/2021 04:06

Actually I read that as the Octavia spelling. Id it's Ottavia in England is Otta-via which isn't as petty so spelling needs to be altered. (Basically a route that goes past an otter 🤷)

peaceinourtime · 01/09/2021 16:42

I think Octavia is better. Ottavia looks like Octavia spelt wrong.

BigWoollyJumpers · 01/09/2021 17:03

I think they are both nice, but I too have an Italian name, with Italian heritage.

DD, if she ever has children/a girl, wants to call her Lucrezia Grin.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/09/2021 17:26

I love Lucrezia! You never see it mentioned on name threads. But I think you really need the exotic Italian heritage to pull that off - it would somehow sound a bit daft with my very "English" surname...
Tal45 · 01/09/2021 17:37

I think they both sound quite pretentious - but if you have Italian heritage and live in Chelsea then they're probably perfect!

Laloo4 · 01/09/2021 18:42

Love Cosima! Ottavia is a bit much for me. Octavia is fine but I think Cosima is beautiful and underrated.

KirstyT11 · 02/09/2021 14:02

I know an ottavia and she is the loveliest woman!! She also has Italian heritage.

I have heard of octavia but I don't like it as much. I prefer ottavia to cosima
