My husband and I completely clash on names. He likes names which I class as 'naughty boy names' (I'm a teacher) and he is completely indifferent to any of my suggestions but says we'll eventually find one we both love... I'm starting to worry that we won't!

We really struggled to name our little boy but eventually went for family names and called him Edward (nn Teddy) Arthur. I found it really stressful naming the baby after he was born and would like to be a bit more prepared this time!

We're expecting our second baby in October and it's another boy.

My husband likes:

  • Max (too bland?)
  • Luca (I worry this is a popular Italian name and we have no links to Italy)

I like:
Leo (too popular?)
Jude (a couple of relatives have told me this sounds too feminine for a boy)
Zachary (a bit boring?)

I'd love some opinions to help us narrow down our choices!

That’s a really nice set of names! Except for Zachary, I love them all & be happy to name my son any of those! From all of them, I’d pick Jude! :)

@PlainJane1000

They aren’t as weird as you might think - they are very definitely not wacky names. Not saying the exact ones as outing, but here are some names that are currently outside the top 1000 in the UK as examples. I bet you’ve heard them all.

Marie, Nicola, Dora, Barbara, Kathleen, Shannon, Caroline, Susie, Beth
Forest, Edgar, Carl, Harold, Jeffery, Julius, Phillip, Maurice, Terry.

Duncan and Giles are outside the top 1500, are are Jodie and Katrina.

Ds's friends include , Sam ,Tom , Will , William , John , Jonny , Freddie , Felix , Edward , Harry , Jasper , Hugo , Julian , Ben , Miles , - all nice names I think. Not "out there . but nice I think - others will have other opinions,

I love Duncan and would have called my son Guy if some SIL had mentioned gorillas Grin Also love Hamish. & Giles has a ring to it,

Apart from that my great friend's BIL has called their son Luca - I just think it is a popular name nowadays ( & no problem with that ) but not necessarily for just Italian related people,,

Greytminds · 26/08/2021 05:25

We’re having the same discussion in our house - DS1 due in a few weeks - and have a very similar list. I am of Italian heritage so quite keen for an Italian name but DH less so. I like Angelo and Emilio. Nathaniel, Luca, Emerson, Jed and Rory are the others on my shortlist.

BasiliskStare · 26/08/2021 06:18

@Greytminds Oh I think Rory is lovely - but whatever you choose I am sure will be great - all very best to you and good luck and wishes for new DS .

Gregory

Raymond - Ray

Loads of great suggestions! We both like the name Alexander but aren't keen on nicknames such as Alex, so will be using this as his middle name Smile

Christian/Kit
Rory
Guy
Laurence/Laurie
Nathaniel/Nate
Peter

XelaM · 27/08/2021 02:20

Andrew, Nicholas (Nick), Peter, Robert

Love the name you gave your older son Smile Classic is always best

XelaM · 27/08/2021 02:21

Michael is also classic (my brother's name)

CherryMaple · 27/08/2021 05:59

I really like Max - also goes best with Edward/Teddy. Very classic. I like Zachary too.

I would personally avoid Luca without an Italian connection.
