Bay for girl name?

Hello,

I’m new! I am having a girl & my husband & I are currently discussing girl names! This is our first girl after 4 boys and where as boys names came easily to us and found names we both like - girl names are providing a little more tricker! I’m more conservative in nature so like more common/ traditional names whereas my husband wants to have something a little more unique!

One thing we both agree with is for a short name as her middle and surname is already decided - middle name is 7 letters & so is the surname.

My husband loves the name ‘Bay’ - I’m not sure? I say loves the name, but is it even a name lol? Your opinions & feedback would be lovely to receive :) do you like the name or is it a bit too out there?

I'm struggling with this one.
I quite like bay horses... still.

Bay for girl name?

Personally I don't like it but I am more on the traditional side. I think there are more striking modern names, it's a bit nothingy.

Good luck and enjoy your girl!

Mymycherrypie · 23/08/2021 15:36

I cook with bay leaves a lot so in our house it’d be like calling the child Oregano or Cinnamon. But it’s not horrible x

saraclara · 23/08/2021 15:37

I've only heard it as a boys name. I think kirstie allsop's son is Bay.

Maassi · 23/08/2021 15:37

It's a bit bland and makes me think of horses? Sorry x

twinkletoedelephant · 23/08/2021 15:38

Have you thought about Jae?

Enough4me · 23/08/2021 15:38

Pretty middle name, or perhaps a similar short first name would be a good fit:
Fay
Kay
May

Apeirogon · 23/08/2021 15:38

I'm not keen because I associate it with Bae (slang for 'babe').

junebirthdaygirl · 23/08/2021 15:38

It could be a boy or girl name and seeing you already have 4 boys names it would be nice to give your little one a definite girls name l think. It is like a name you would call your horse

ODFOx · 23/08/2021 15:41

What Apeirogon said.

What about Fay, Kay or Rae?

Swearitagain · 23/08/2021 15:41

What springs to mind for me is bae, as in the slang for babe/baby. That might be falling out of favour now (I'm not exactly up to speed on youth speak!) but just something to consider

helpmum2003 · 23/08/2021 15:41

Here are some other short, modern names.

Lila
Mia
Beau
Tia
Lara
Lola
Tori

OverweightPidgeon · 23/08/2021 15:44

She will be called Bay leaf at school.

Chunkymenrock · 23/08/2021 15:45

I dislike it. Male name. What about Page, Fay or Faith?

Nextchapterofmybook · 23/08/2021 15:53

Horses, sorry

BeachFamily · 23/08/2021 15:54

Thank you for the comments! I think the one that hit home & will to my husband, is the term ‘bar’ which ‘the young’ use! I’ll add that to my reasons why not to choose it lol!

BeachFamily · 23/08/2021 15:55

I mean the term ‘bae. ‘

thriftyhen · 23/08/2021 16:27

Happenchance · 23/08/2021 16:28

Shay and Tay are nice. It's funny the difference a letter makes!

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 23/08/2021 16:44

I know a little girl called Bay. It’s not my favourite name but it’s not massively out there, I’ve heard it a few times for a girl.

2bazookas · 23/08/2021 16:45

Bay leaf, bay city rollers, babe in the woods, babe , bacon, bay-sick

I wouldn't lumber a child with "Bay"

DukeOfEarlGrey · 23/08/2021 16:58

I read the title and I ought it was beautiful. I’ve known one little girl called Bay and it was lovely for her. It just makes me think of a bay, as in bay of water.
