A middle name starting with a consonant

My DH’s family have a tradition of giving children three first names.

We’ve got a suitable name lined up for a boy and even a first name and second name for a girl but finding a third we both like - and works - is leaving us stumped!

The easiest thing to do would be to use a family name but frankly they’re all terrible! Not just our grandmothers’ names but our mums’ names too are really dated and I wouldn’t want to use my name.

So many of the girls names we like start with vowels which has rather a lot of potential of ending up creating a word with the initials!

We need something that starts with a consonant and has a couple of syllables. Preferably not too popular.

Now it sounds simple but I’m completely stuck… any ideas?

I’d say we need the other 2 names before we can offer suggestions.

What's your surname / maiden name? I like the tradition of using the mother's maiden name as a middle name. I'd have done it for mine except that we have a double barrelled surname :(

It's gender neutral as well so don't have to think of different ones.

Thanks for the ideas Happenchance! Smile

That’s a really nice idea Twizbe but unfortunately it won’t work with our surnames. Really like that suggestion! Sad

We’re thinking Adrianna Jane… and then something starting with a consonant and two or three syllables

The name would probably flow better with Jane in third place.

Adrianna Jane Frances
Adrianna Jane Louise
Adrianna Jane Marie

I agree with @user1493494961.
I too think Jane would sound much better in 3rd place.

eg Adrianna Lily Jane sounds better than
Adrianna Jane Lily.

Jane needs to be third, my daughter has two middle names. I wanted to give her Wendy as a middle name after a loved one but it was too abrupt on its own so she has Wendy Jane as her middle names

Seren20 · 20/08/2021 18:17

Thank you for all the suggestions. I’m friends or colleagues with a number of people with suggested names - and one is the name of a rather horrid ex-boss!

You’re probably right user-with-lots-of-numbers, but I’ve had the name in mind longer than I’ve had the husband and his family traditions (and that’s been quite a while tbh) so I’m kinda loathe to separate them.

At the same time, it gets my feminist hackles up to give anything “less” to a girl than a boy!

Those are nice, Happenchance. I’m not sure about those ones LimeSodaTwist, they feel a bit old fashioned to me but thank you for making some suggestions. (I know most of them are actually very fashionable now and it’s me who’s actually being old fashioned!)

I’m also realising I know too many parents with girls who have names listed too!

Do you absolutely have to do this? Why does it automatically have to follow what the male's family does? What about your choice and your family traditions?

Seren20 · 20/08/2021 22:41

It’s not automatic. It’s something my husband values and it seems a nice sort of tradition, my family don’t have any naming traditions, so why not?

Adrianna Jane as first two names was my choice, which he agreed with after all!
