Beatrix? I have no idea!

I’m having a very very unexpected first baby. We’re planning on having a double barrelled surname: either Springer-Gunnett or Gunnett-Springer (probably the latter). That mouthful of a surname leaves us little wiggle room for a first name!

For girls, I like: Annie, Erin, Martha, Heidi, Jessie, Hattie, Alice… but the one I keep coming back to is Beatrix (Trixie).

Is that insane? And which surname combination do you think sounds better?

For boys, God help us, because we haven’t even got a long list.

Beatrix is lovely. Nicer and less common than Beatrice.

@BIankets we've just had a little girl and our first choice was Beatrix! I absolutely love it! We ended up changing our minds at the last min and even nearly went back to Beatrix two days after she was born!! I think it's such a gorgeous name and it will deffo be top of my list if I have another x

I think Beatrix is a lovely name, and goes well with the surnames either way round - as you also liked Annie, I think Anne might be a good choice of middle name.

Do you want suggestions for boys names too?

The ones that popped into my mind, based on your girl's list, and either short or with short/plain nickname options to balance the long surname, are

Joseph, Joel, Mark, Alexander, Frederick, Charles, Edward, Michael

I prefer Beatrice too. It's gentler and doesn't have the word 'tricks' in it. Trixie sounds like tricksy as in a difficult person, so I think Bea or Triss are nicer. But lovely core name and the surname is fine either way.

I much prefer Beatrice too - much more elegant.

I’m more a fan of Beatrice, but I did love Beatrice and Benedict in Much Ado
