Hello! I’m expecting a baby girl at the end of summer and my husband and I have got down to two final names… which one would you go for?
Marnie or Margot?
The middle name will probably be Joy! Thanks!

As long as you don't mind both names rising significantly in popularity! There are so many of both in my local area all under 5.
Other M names to consider are
Merryn
Minnie
Marlowe
Meryl
Maya
Mahalia
Mindy

While I much prefer Marnie as a nn (for Marina, Marianne, Mariana etc), because as a given name it's slightly trendy, I still like it better than Margot which is extremely trendy now imo and rapidly rising, so will date more of the two I think.

Love Marnie
Both nice though

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/07/2021 21:07

Margaret, called Margot for short. So much more flexible...

MojoJojo71 · 25/07/2021 21:13

Marnie by a mile. I just cannot understand the appeal of Margot, I know mumsnet seems to love it but I really don’t like it at all.

jackstini · 25/07/2021 21:17

Marnie is cuter on a baby but sounds like a nickname for an adult
Margot is more adaptable through life - and quite posh!

user1493494961 · 25/07/2021 21:19

Margot.

Chunkymenrock · 25/07/2021 21:25

Margot is frumpy, harsh and horrible. Also looks like Maggot. Marnie is much better.

RuthW · 25/07/2021 21:39

Margot.

daisypond · 25/07/2021 21:41

Margot is classy and cool.
Marnie is down-at-heel trailer park.

Chilldonaldchill · 25/07/2021 21:49

Margot.

DramaAlpaca · 25/07/2021 21:51

Marnie by miles.

Margot is such an ugly name.

MaMelon · 25/07/2021 21:52

Margot - much classier and goes better with Joy. I wouldn’t go with the Margaux spelling, it’s a wine.

Benvolio · 25/07/2021 21:54

Wouldn't Margeaux be the plural of Margot? Grin

toolazytothinkofausername · 25/07/2021 21:54

Margaux Joy :)

I do not like the name Marnie.

Benvolio · 25/07/2021 21:56

@Benvolio

Wouldn't Margeaux be the plural of Margot? Grin
Margaux

I prefer Marnie and I've only ever met one who would be around 14 now.

Margot seems to be very popular atm, I keep hearing baby Margot's (or Nancy's) everywhere atm but I'm not a fan

AnnaSW1 · 25/07/2021 22:20

Margot. I think Marnie will age badly

Maggiemay92 · 26/07/2021 11:51

I love the Margaux spelling too!

Both names are lovely.

Aquamarine1029 · 26/07/2021 11:53

I really dislike both, sorry. I would go back to the drawing board.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 26/07/2021 11:55

Love Marnie.
Marnie Joy is lovely.

Margot is awful. As is the other spelling of it. Very 1970's hostess trolley esque imo.

Sapnupuas · 26/07/2021 12:26

I love Margot!

championofdance · 26/07/2021 12:35

Marnie

LittleGwyneth · 26/07/2021 12:42

Absolutely love Margot. If you're going to play with the spelling I would go Margo without the T. Margaux is like calling your child Chardonnay or Pinot.
