Zachary and other Biblical boys' names

I'm really keen on Zachary for DS2 due in Autumn. I've seen several different shortening spellings: Zac, Zak and Zach.

Which do you think is most traditional or we'd have the least problem with people spelling?

Also would be interested in any other Biblical boys' name suggestions, please! Middle name will be Matthew and surname begins with B. DS1 is Joshua, so not that!

Lovely name. I’d spell it Zac or Zach for short.

TheVanguardSix · 25/07/2021 13:51

I like Zach the best.
Zachary is a great name.

I also like Eitan, Elijah, Jethro, Avram, Seth, Asher.

Theoldwoman · 25/07/2021 13:53

Zac.

Biblical names I love are:

Benjamin
Samuel
Jacob
Caleb
Reuben
Asher
Luke
Jonah
Noah
Simon
Joel
Joshua
Timothy
Micah

mum2jakie · 25/07/2021 13:57

I like Jacob, Isaac, Elijah, Luke and Simon

CrouchEndTiger12 · 25/07/2021 13:58

Luke and Mark are my favourites.

Mark Matthew has a ring to it. No one says a full name out loud much anyway

gogohm · 25/07/2021 14:02

Noah, Benjamin, Elijah, Reuben, David ... I like Zachary

SingleHandSue · 25/07/2021 14:05

As someone with a Zachary shortened to Zach believe me it won’t matter which way you spell it most people will get it wrong.

We’ve had Zac, Zak, Zack, Zakk, Zacc and even Sac! Grin

Zachary is a wonderful name. Zach for short, but everyone will get it wrong anyway.

FrancesFlute · 25/07/2021 15:11

Thank you all for the great suggestions - definitely a few new ones I'd not considered (Jethro and Micah) and lots I'd 'forgotten' too. I do really like Reuben, but DH isn't very keen Sad.

Does anyone have an Isaac and presumably also have issues with people misspelling? This is one of DH's main worries about names - that people will spell wrong!

I definitely prefer Zach/Zac over Zack/Zak.

My son is called Isaac and yes people always wrongly spell it as "Issac" - I dont let it bother me though. I still love his name. we don't shorten it though, He's just known as Isaac x

Anonapapple · 25/07/2021 20:37

I am loving Zebediah, Zeb for short! My husband would never agree to it but I think it's so cute. I'm also looking for biblical names and like Elisha for a boy but again it's too out there for my husband.

RandomCatGenerator · 26/07/2021 10:44

Zebediah is great! As is Zeb. And more likely to be taken seriously than Zebedee…

RandomCatGenerator · 26/07/2021 10:44

If you like Isaac and Zach, maybe consider Issachar as a more unusual variation

Bells3032 · 26/07/2021 10:54

We are expecting a girl but if it was a boy we had chosen the name Zachary Isaac. I think there's very few names that don't have any spelling variation so wouldn't let that put you off. My name is misspelled and mispronounced a lot (and it's not an uncommon name). you just get used to spelling it out. my DH has a shortened name as his birth name and people always just assume his name is full version

What can you do?

How about Aaron or Adam? Don't think anyone has mentioned them yet

coastergirl · 26/07/2021 11:33

I have a Zachary, mostly known as Zach or Zachie. I love it. We do get people spelling it Zac or Zak but it doesn't really bother me.

Maggiemay92 · 26/07/2021 11:39

I love biblical names!

My favourite boy's names are Reuben, Phineas, Gabriel, Luke, Caleb, Joseph, Isaac. I love Zephaniah too but it's probably a bit much!

Maggiemay92 · 26/07/2021 11:39

Ooohhh Jonah! Forgot Jonah!

resm · 26/07/2021 21:49

I have an Isaac and we get 50% of people spelling it Issac. Zac is also a nickname for Isaac, but we would call him Ike from time to time. Also have a Jude with Matthew for middle name.

LouLikesLollies · 27/07/2021 09:15

Great name, was on our shortlist! I’d go with Zac.

TigersandTeddybears · 27/07/2021 09:27

Zebediah (zeb) Ezekiel (Zeke) or Zachary/Zachariah (zach) are all great names.

Personally I really like the softer sounds like Joshua, Joseph and Noah. But obliviously you already have a Joshua and Joseph and Noah are both very overused

Lampzade · 27/07/2021 09:30

Gabriel
I like Joseph but you may not want another J name
Zachary is lovely
