Could you rate my girls name list please / offer any other similar suggestions, if these are ones we like?

Current list is:

Lucia
(Italian pronunciation Loo-CHEE-a, though we're not Italian... not sure if this matters!)

Mia

Olivia

Diana

Lucia will spend her life correcting people who pronounce it Loo-see-a, I'm afraid.

Mia - ok

Olivia - ok (but very popular)

Diana - nope

TatianaBis · 18/07/2021 22:35

Olivia and Mia - sooo overdone.

Like Lucia and Diana. But would people think it was after Di?

ladygindiva · 18/07/2021 22:36

I really like Lucia!

TatianaBis · 18/07/2021 22:37

By the way I have an Italian friend called Lucia everyone pronounces it incorrectly - Loo see a. IDK if that would bother you.

DotDotDotDotDot · 18/07/2021 22:41

Lucia is my favourite, lovely name. Although the various pronunciation differences might be annoying. loo-chee-a, loo-see-a or loo-sha, I’ve heard all 3 used.
Mia is nice but massively overused, Nia might be another option. Dislike Olivia and Diane, sorry.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/07/2021 00:00

My fave is Diana- classical, strong, elegant and underused (although I must admit I don't like the nn Di).

I also quite like Lucia but I do think many people will pronounce it differently when they first see it (I would guess you'll get Loo -chee -ah only about half the time until they are told).

I think Olivia and Mia are a bit dull compared to your other choices, as they are so popular/trendy now (which is a shame in lovely Olivia's case imo).

Other suggestions that are the same style as your other choices to me: Louisa, Helena, Lara, Susannah, Serena, Thalia, Julia, Marina, Mariana, Lydia, Gaia, Claudia, Cecilia, Celia, Antonia, Octavia, Ophelia, Aurelia.

LawnFever · 19/07/2021 00:05

Lucia - nobody will ever pronounce it the way you intend & it’ll be a pain her entire life

Mia - nice

Olivia - very over used, she’ll be one of many in a class/forever

Diana - don’t like it, I’d assume it was after Princess Diana, dated 80s vibe

Awrite · 19/07/2021 00:08

Yes to Lucia - it's lovely.

Olivia and Mia are great names but far too popular.

No to Diana.

Lavender21 · 19/07/2021 00:11

Lucia is a lovely name, I also like Mia and Olivia but not as much.

Nogardenersworld · 19/07/2021 00:11

Definitely not Lucia
Lovely name, but you’re not Italian, she’ll spend her life correcting people and explaining that no she is not Italian, and no she doesn’t know why her parents insisted on an Italian pronunciation either (I speak from experience)

Olivia I’m sure has been in the top 5 names for years now, so depends if that bothers you

I’d pick Diana personally, it’s the most unusual and one probably due for a resurgence

Mia is lovely too though but again v popular

Louisa? Cassia? Valentina? Helena? Emilia? Mila?

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 19/07/2021 00:14

I like Lucia. The one I know often gets called Chi and everyone pn her whole name correctly as far as I’ve known.

I like Diana but really do not like Di as a shortened version. How about Anna?

The other two I am not keen on as used so much.

AdaColeman · 19/07/2021 00:17

All lovely names, but Olivia has been one of the most popular names for some years, and Mia is also quite popular.

Lucia will have pronunciation problems, it’s always problematical to use a name with pronunciation you have chosen, but others might not follow, you could be setting yourself up for years of disappointment and angst.

So that leaves Diana, which is very pretty.

MerylSqueak · 19/07/2021 00:37

They're all nice names. Mia and Olivia are very popular ATM. Lucía will be pronounced loo see ya. Personally, I don't like Diana that much. I love Anna though and quite like Sylvia but appreciate it has a bad history in this country.

My twopennorth is Ophelia.

KirstenBlest · 19/07/2021 09:03

Lucia - a lifetime of Loo-cee-ah/Loosha/Lucy-ah?

Mia - overused and lots of similar names like Maya/Maia etc

Olivia - overused

Diana - ok

leatrees · 19/07/2021 13:15

Thanks for the comments all!

We have close friends who have a little Lucy, which is why we'd do the Italian pronunciation of Lucia and not just Loo-SEE-a... to try to maintain a different sound.

But I actually really like LooSEEa too, so if she wanted to use it when older or answer to it it wouldn't bother me at all.

Loo-SEE-a is Spanish and Loo-CHEE-a is Italian, as far as I understand - both correct though.

I love Lucia as a name. People get used to how to say it so I wouldn't worry there.

I like Diana too

Never liked Olivia or Mia so they a big no from me

TheRosariojewels · 19/07/2021 16:13

I like Lucia and Diana.

AvantGardening · 23/07/2021 16:01

I’d go for Diana. Classical, easy to say and spell, strong and not overused.

WaitinginVain · 23/07/2021 16:43

They're all nice names in and of themselves but Olivia's been so popular for such a long time and there are a lot of Mia's around now too.

I like Lucia best and people would get used to the pronunciation. Diana would be my second choice.

EssentialHummus · 23/07/2021 16:49

There are so many Olivia and Mia around that that'd put me off. I'd use Lucia if you're happy to correct people on pronunciation a certain amount. Otherwise Diana is lovely and due a comeback imo.

BunnyRuddington · 23/07/2021 16:55

I really like Lucia, especially with the pronunciation that you've chosen.

Diana is my next favourite. It won't necessarily be shortened to Di. I know a lovely Diana and she's never been known as Di.

Mia and Olivia are both a bit overdone but that might not bother you, they are popular for a reason afterall Smile

A name that might fit with your a ending is Claudia.

Kanaloa · 23/07/2021 17:06

Lucia I love, like it pronounced either way.

Olivia is nice but it’s very popular, lots of Olivias.

Mia is fine. I find it a bit boring but it’s an okay name.

Diana is okay too, don’t like the sound much but it’s a fine name.

MrsGilly1 · 24/07/2021 08:05
