Hi everyone,

So I'm due our little boy this week (prob be overdue but hey ho!) Has anyone any suggestions for a little brother for Esther?

We had Esthers name long before she was born and we love that it's traditional but still don't hear of many others......

So far we only have :

Henry (after FIL which I'm not fussed about but OH loves)

Crawford (Again a family name which i like but worried its too "out there")

Archie (I love but worried its too common now)

Any suggestions are welcome Smile

Of the three, Henry. Crawford will be Crawfie. Archie has been too popular.

Zarene · 18/07/2021 16:32

Deffo Henry out of those three. I really like Henry!

Crawford is bloody awful, sorry.

DoucheCanoe · 18/07/2021 16:34

Henry is just as popular as Archie around here so I'd avoid that if that's a concern!

Crawford is a family surname and I've never heard it as a first name, can't say I'm keen tbh.

I like Henry best from your list.

Standrewsschool · 18/07/2021 16:45

Crawford - for middle name, not first name
Henry - best from your list

Suggestions-
Edward
William
Robert
Daniel
Benjamin
Peter

DramaAlpaca · 18/07/2021 16:48

Funnily enough I was going to suggest Henry before I saw it on your list.

If you like Old Testament names, Joshua would go well with Esther.

INeedtobealone · 18/07/2021 16:51

Definitely Henry of your three.

Completely agree with the points made above:

Archie too overused
Crawford middle name only, ghastly as a first name
Henry is popular but always lovely

Also consider:
Gregory
David
Nicholas
James
Rafe
William
Matthew
George

FWIW - I agree Archie seems rather too popular - a nice enough name. I think Henry is also rather popular too. I really don't like Crawford at all - sounds like a surname - Michael Crawford or the word Crawfish to me.

Of the names mentioned so far I liked Rueben and Hugo the best - I have a lovely friend called Hugo - I think a name that has good associations is always going to be easier to get to like.

I like Evan - not many around - and if E for Esther goes well with your surname maybe E for Evan would work but I would look for a name to match with Esther. With my first daughter we had about 6 names in mind but once she was born she didn't look like any of them - it didn't take long to find a name on our B list that fitted - we had no idea if it would be a girl or a boy ATM. There's no rush is there? Enjoy the process - don't stress over it - something will come to you.

I like European sounding names like Yves and Clement, Luc, Jean - I prefer short names too.

Let us know what you choose. Hope your birth goes well - being there and seeing my girls born was the most amazing experience.

Simon or Simeon
Theodore
Matthew
Tobias
Jonathan
Ben

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/07/2021 17:13

Henry is lovely imo - classic/traditional like Esther. Archie is too trendy for me and Crawford doesn't have a very nice sound imo, sorry (but if it's a family name, maybe you could use it as a middle?).

I'm guessing you have already considered other well known Biblical names like Esther? (Samuel, James, Thomas, Isaac, Daniel, Jacob, John, Peter, Adam, Matthew, Benjamin, Ethan, Nathaniel, Caleb, Luke and so on).

Or Edward, William, Hugh, Nicholas, Frederick, Phillip, Alexander, Charles, Alfred, Toby etc have a similar feel to Henry for me.

DinosaurDiana · 18/07/2021 17:15

I like Archie.

TatianaBis · 18/07/2021 17:25

I would avoid Archie due to the royal link.

I'd do Henry Crawford.

MissMissTorrance · 18/07/2021 17:29

First thought was Thomas.
Thomas Crawford

TatianaBis · 18/07/2021 17:30

Altho do bear in mind that Henry Crawford is the charming cad in Mansfield Park.

thisisnotwhatisignedupfor · 18/07/2021 17:32

Agree that depending on where you live Henry might be more popular than Archie.
I also don't like Crawford.
Laurence would be my suggestion, classic but not common and I think it goes well with Esther.

bloominglovelyorange · 18/07/2021 21:42

Archie's numbers have been falling past couple of years or so if you look at the official figures. I don't know any

greatestdancer · 18/07/2021 21:44

Henry goes really well with Esther

Cloverleaf20 · 18/07/2021 21:47

George Crawford , have a good friend whose nickname has been George and it’s still seems cool as an adult !

RoseMartha · 18/07/2021 22:12

Can you use Crawford as a middle name?

Joseph
Jacob

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/07/2021 07:03

Henry is lovely but it’s really popular at the moment if that’s an issue. I wouldn’t worry about that if you love it though!

SmallPrawnEnergy · 19/07/2021 07:36

I would avoid Archie due to the royal link.
I'd do Henry
Hmm nee royal links at all with Henry is there? Grin

Theoldwoman · 19/07/2021 07:38

Not fussed on any on your list , sorry.

Love Esther.

I would pair it up with:

Esther and Reuben
Esther and Jeremy
Esther and William
Esther and Caleb
Esther and Leo
Esther and Thomas

Oh yes, but I think I'd go for the Lawrence spelling to go with Esther. Not sure why though! A very good match in my opinion.
