It's a family tradition with many M names. Not necessarily set on an M name but would like to explore options.

I like:
Mia
Mila / Milla (but already used)
Mika (Dutch / Belgium spelling Mieke but might be too difficult in an English speaking context)

I dislike:
Margery
Mona
Melanie
Margot
Maggie / Margaret
Mackenzie / any Mac/Mak names
Madeline
Maria
Martha

Any others?

I also like Eva which could be an option

Mika is nice (and I don't think Mieke will necessarily have that much pronuciation issues in the UK, but yes there may well be spelling ones). Mia is too popular here for me and Mila quite trendy.

I love international Marina myself as well as fellow Shakespearean beauties Miranda and Mariana. I also like Austenesque Marianne, retro/vintage Millicent, unusual and exotic Melisande, and lovely sounding Catalan Mireia

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/07/2021 12:49

Oh yes I also forgot classic May and vintage Mina - both simple and lovely choices imo.

Cheerio21 · 16/07/2021 12:50

Ooo I do like Marina! Beautiful

Shame about Mila, because it's a gorgeous name!

Mika is predominantly a boys’ name in Finland so that’s the first thought I’d have - but I spend too much with Finnish people and follow a few Finnish athletes, so that’s how I know a fair few male Mika’s.

I really like Mia and don’t actually know any children called that, despite its popularity.

More Germanic M names: Marlies, Marloes, Mariska, Marissa, Marieka, Maxima (adoptive Dutch Wink), Marjolein, Marlijn, Meryl, Merin, Marit.

Milou and Mireille are similar to Mila

TatianaBis · 16/07/2021 13:05

I like Marisol, Marianne, Matilda, Maud.

I really like Mieke and much prefer that spelling - but I’m a Londoner and we can cope with forrin.

TatianaBis · 16/07/2021 13:06

Malvina. Look up Malvina Reynolds, she's an old folk singer.
