Edward or Stanley? And why please?

Due in a few weeks and finally narrowed down the shortlist.
Also considered Samuel or Rory but these names have recently been used by other friends.

Middle names will be Alfred Charles.

Thank you 😊

Edward - no contest. Edward has always stayed in the top 100 for E and W, Stanley is very trendy in comparison so will date far more. Edward also as the benefit of about a dozen nn's so he can take his pick if he wants to, with Stanley you are mostly limited to Stan.

Edward. Stick with a classic.
My dog is called Stanley and he's a silly buggar.

DramaAlpaca · 14/07/2021 23:49

Stanley. I like Edward too, but for some reason I really like Stanley even though it's not normally my style of name.

emmathedilemma · 15/07/2021 11:58

awww i love Stanley!

NannyR · 15/07/2021 12:06

Definitely Edward, a strong, classic, timeless name with lots of potential for shortening it if you wanted to.
I think of Stanley as trying hard to be different and cool by choosing a vintage name. But that's only my personal opinion, if you love it, go for it!

Edward

Edward is timeless and classy. I knew a Stanley who was an awful person which colours my view but then again it's an awful sounding name regardless.

PearlNextDoor · 15/07/2021 19:53

Edward

Stan is cute on kids and teens but the name Stanley itself sounds a bit weedy to me. Whereas Edward is a good robust name that suits all sorts of men and boys. Isn't tied to a class in my head.

I like Ed and Eddie for short but am not into this current trend for Ted and Teddy.

35andThriving · 15/07/2021 21:57

Stanley is beautiful. Smile

There is a boy in my son’s class and he is Stanley, always called Stan The Man. Very grating.

stevalnamechanger · 16/07/2021 01:04

Stanley sounds like a bulldog sorry 😫🤦‍♀️

Dinosauraddict · 16/07/2021 01:12

I would go with Edward - it's classic.

Maggiesfarm · 16/07/2021 06:09

I like both, they are good, solid names.

miltonj · 16/07/2021 09:52

Stanley! Love it. Edward is fine, but boring (and it's ok to have a boring name).

RandomHomoSapien · 16/07/2021 22:24

I think you are mistaking ‘classic’ for boring
PPAK2 · 16/07/2021 23:06

Edward/Eddie reminds me of Bottom and I can't not see that guys face when I hear the name. I actually really like Stanley/Stan, I used to know a wonderful old man with that name.

RosemaryRosemary · 17/07/2021 05:31

Edward

crochetcrazy1978 · 17/07/2021 14:18

Stanley. But I'm biased as my ds is called Stanley! Grin

WaitinginVain · 17/07/2021 21:32

I really don't like either but Edward is much better with Alfred Charles.
