Looking for some honest opinions 🙈 will put my big girl pants on just in case lol

I still don't know gender but if baby is a girl we were thinking about naming her Bonnie. It's a name we've always spoke about and loved.
I have also been considering giving baby my grandmothers name (grandmother passed a few years ago), so middle name would be Jean

Not sure if it would be too similar to Billie Jean and she's get mocked for that song or not or if anyone else think they go together?

I wouldn’t go for Scarlett with Jean - it sounds more like you’re describing clothes.

Comedycook · 11/07/2021 21:55

It's sweet but the initials would put me off.

What about Connie instead of Bonnie?

NautaOcts · 11/07/2021 21:55

I like Bonnie and know two baby Bonnies at the moment (not Scotland!)

Chilldonaldchill · 11/07/2021 22:43

I don't like Bonnie myself.
But I think BJ is maybe less of an issue than people are saying.
My 16 year old son plays a sport with lots of teens and adult men up to the age of 40. One of them is known as BJ. In several years I have never heard anyone comment on his name despite the fact that they do make a lot of jokes about each other a lot

percheron67 · 11/07/2021 22:58

Is a brother to be called Bonnie Prince Charlie .......................

Kanaloa · 11/07/2021 23:00

Will her first and middle names both be used daily, like hyphenated? If so I’m not too keen, I do like Bonnie on its own though.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 11/07/2021 23:13

Please somebody! What does BJ mean that is so awful?

Eleoura · 11/07/2021 23:18

Could you add a 2nd, short, middle name if you really want those names to avoid the BJ initials?

Bonnie Rose Jean Surname etc

MichelleScarn · 11/07/2021 23:22

@TheGenealogist

A fine wee lass, a bonnie wee lass Is bonnie wee Jeannie McCall

It's awful. And yes, BJ as initials is just tacky.

I met her at a wedding in the corporation halll! My first thought too!
motherstongue · 11/07/2021 23:27

I immediately thought of the character Bonnie Jean in Brigadoon. Or Bonnie wee Jeannie McColl from the song. But then, I’m Scottish.

IDontLikeMondays88 · 11/07/2021 23:29

I find Bonnie twee. What about just using Jean

satci · 11/07/2021 23:32

Really? Blow job
SoMuchForSummerLove · 11/07/2021 23:34

Bonnie is a bit of a pressure name in Scotland though. It's like calling your daughter Gorgeous. Far too easy for mean kids to have fun with that as a first name.

I know a Nancy-Jean and I think it's fabulous!

Enough4me · 11/07/2021 23:40

Nancy Jean is lovely, best suggestion so far.

Bonnie is more of a description..."isn't she bonnie?" don't even get me started on BJ

Ikeameatballs · 11/07/2021 23:44

I like both Bonnie and Jean but not together!

WeeM · 11/07/2021 23:47

Like a pp all I can think of is the character in the ancient film Brigadoon!

Bonnieweejeaniemccall · 11/07/2021 23:53

That's my actual little girls name and I love it!

I don't know anyone in life who gets referred to by their initials so its a non issue to me. Apart from family and really close friends I can't say I know anyone's middle name.

bonelope · 11/07/2021 23:59

As a Bonnie myself, and one who lives in Scotland, I have to say I like it. However, Ioften go out to a park and hear someone calling "Bonnie!" and along trots a wee dog. Please not Bonnie Jean though. If you want Jean as a middle name, I'd go with another first name.

Marcipex · 12/07/2021 00:04

Don’t give her BJ initials. School children always find these things out.
Jean is okay.
Bonnie is a common dogs name, and also quite cringey for the awkward teenage years.

Marcipex · 12/07/2021 00:06

@bonelope sorry, x posted with you.
I expect it was a cute dog.

SD1978 · 12/07/2021 00:12

Scottish here- never even thought of Billie Jean. Also, how often would you actually be using her middle name? Never. If you're in Scotland I don't think anyone would bay an eye at the name

FunnyWonder · 12/07/2021 00:29

I think it's lovely. But what do I know?!

willithappen · 12/07/2021 07:23

I'm not entirely fussed on it also being a name for dogs because dogs names and human names are so interchangeable these days that it'd be difficult to avoid all names just because a dog could be called that

Lovely to hear those who know/have the same name! Especially in Scotland as well.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 12/07/2021 07:40

It sounds a bit Appalachian trailer park to me I'm afraid, and the initials are unfortunate.

YeDancer · 12/07/2021 07:46

Scottish here

The name Bonnie is increasingly common and it makes me cringe. To me, its a song or a dogs name.

Its also very common in the American South - DSis lives there now and it ruins the word for her when she hears it being used out of Scotland. Plus she says the women she knows with the name Bonnie are all stereotypical American South Republican voting Trump supporting people.

Nothing wrong with Scarlet unless you are going to be calling "scarlet jean" in the playground rather than just Scarlet
