Thoughts on this name, would Ari be a possible nn or would it inevitably be Asti

RubyFowler · 10/07/2021 21:56

I love it. No nickname needed.

felulageller · 10/07/2021 22:39

Love it

MonkeyPuddle · 10/07/2021 22:42

Going against the curve here, but I really dislike it. I see Assturd, as from The Office.

IdblowJonSnow · 10/07/2021 23:03

I love Astrid. Go for it!

TatianaBis · 10/07/2021 23:45

Loathe it, no idea why it’s popular on MN. It sounds like pest killer for AstroTurf.

TatianaBis · 10/07/2021 23:46

Like Astraea though.

TatianaBis · 10/07/2021 23:47

@MonkeyPuddle yes!

babbaloushka · 11/07/2021 09:34

AssTurd.

Soomanybooks · 11/07/2021 12:12

I have a teenage Astrid, she loves her name and has never had any negative comments. Occasionally, it is shortened to Asti.

HoldingTheDoor · 11/07/2021 12:25

It's awful. It has such an unpleasant sound.

LittleGwyneth · 11/07/2021 12:34

Love it

OverByYer · 11/07/2021 12:38

I love the name. So strong

genie10 · 11/07/2021 12:47

I think it's awful. Very harsh sounding.

VenusClapTrap · 11/07/2021 16:18

I love it. Strong, grown up and elegant. I wouldn’t shorten it.

If you need a pet name, call her something unrelated. My dd has a name that is often described as ‘harsh’ on MN and has no obvious shortening, so she tends to get Petal or Flowerpot or Chickpea or some other nonsense from me.

PumpkinKlNG · 11/07/2021 16:21

Any name with “ass” in it is a no from me

schoolsoutforever · 11/07/2021 19:49

I have an Astrid; she is 13 and doesn’t shorten it. (Apart from at home when she is Lachie - her brothers toddler pronunciation). She really likes her name.

FartnissEverbeans · 11/07/2021 20:35

@AstridsMama Sassa is a fab nickname! Sassi or Sassy could probably work too.

I love this name and would be considering it if I were having a girl

FlumpyPoodle · 11/07/2021 20:38

I can't see Sassa working as a nickname unless you actually live in Sweden.

But I'm not a fan of Astrid at all. Reminds me of astringent.

FlumpyPoodle · 11/07/2021 20:39

And now I've seen 'ass turd'.

Lalliella · 11/07/2021 23:06

Beautiful name. No nickname required. 2 syllable names don’t need to be shortened and I can’t imagine it would be.

Lalliella · 11/07/2021 23:06

@babbaloushka

AssTurd.
That’s really nasty and unnecessary.
FlumpyPoodle · 11/07/2021 23:24

To be fair to that poster she's just referencing an Astrid joke that happened in an episode of the American version of The Office. I think it's good to know any pop culture references, good and bad, connected to a name you're giving your child.

TheWashingMachine · 11/07/2021 23:30

Very harsh sounding.

fruitandflowers · 11/07/2021 23:34

I have an Astrid and we do call her Asti a fair bit, but she is mostly an Astrid to others.

Don’t know how you get to ari from Astrid tho.

Noshowlomo · 11/07/2021 23:35

Ass-turd
@MonkeyPuddle knows
