I really like it. It's a strong classic.
Yes, it rhymes with chlamydia but seriously, that might make someone puerile comment once but it's really not a big deal.

Pemba · 08/07/2021 13:54

Well most words rhyme with some other word don't they? I think the chlamidya thing is a bit contrived.

It's a beautiful classic name, far nicer than many names that currently in the top ten.

Bemused by the person who said 'frumpy', in what way is it frumpy? Doreen and Edna are the sort of names that are considered 'frumpy'. But even they will probably come back some day. Lydia is timeless.

peaceinourtime · 09/07/2021 06:24

I like but have seen well heard it be pronounced different as Lydia as it should be and also as Linda.

Phyllis321 · 09/07/2021 06:27

Love it. Always my favourite Bennett sister. Classic and elegant.

Hangingtrousers · 09/07/2021 06:31

My dd is Lydia. Nobody yet has said chlamidya... We shall see. We love the name and it suits her perfectly. :)
She's the only one in her school too which is a bonus.

cariadlet · 09/07/2021 06:44

@Phyllis321

Love it. Always my favourite Bennett sister. Classic and elegant.

@Phyllis321 Agree that it's a lovely name but how on earth can she be your favourite sister? She's silly, selfish and immature. She caused so much trouble for her family when she ran off with Wickham and then swanned back, acting all superior to her older sisters, because D'Arcy had forced Wickham to marry her.

SHB2021 · 09/07/2021 07:30

I love it. One of my first choices but hubby not playing ball. I think it's classic but not overused or over popular. Or dated...
all round pretty girls name.

Phyllis321 · 09/07/2021 11:41

I like her because she’s a rebel and feisty.

Phantasmo · 09/07/2021 11:44

Lydia Bennet. Brazen strumpet.

It's a nice name.

DramaAlpaca · 09/07/2021 17:09

I adore it.

MissMissTorrance · 09/07/2021 17:24

I don't know why but I always picture a ladybird 🐞

Ellmau · 09/07/2021 18:43

Very pretty.

Echobelly · 09/07/2021 18:44

I really like it

PinkSkiesAtNight · 09/07/2021 18:45

I had a Lidia. Spelling because we are duo-nationality family. She was known as Liddie. I think it is beautiful.

SunSeaSurfGin · 09/07/2021 18:46

I really like it

Would use it on a future DD but have bad connotations with someone

EssentialHummus · 09/07/2021 18:53

Weirdly my main association to it is that it’s the username of a very strident lady on the equivalent of Mumsnet for lawyers (though she’s on here too) Confused. So that puts me off a bit. But I know a lovely one who must be about five now.

Sorry, not very helpful!

WallaceinAnderland · 09/07/2021 18:53

Love it.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 09/07/2021 18:53

I think it’s a gorgeous name

Kanaloa · 09/07/2021 21:30

It’s nice. Maybe lowering the tone a bit as it reminds most people of Austen, but it makes me think of the tv programme Teen Wolf! I think it’s a fine name.

HappydaysArehere · 09/07/2021 22:19

Probably be shortened to Lydd.

badgerswitharms · 09/07/2021 22:24

I'm a lydia and have never had the chlamydia connection mentioned to my face.

The nicknames are a bit shit but generally like my name.

CharityPecksniff · 09/07/2021 22:26

I like it. Also the French version, Lydie.

SmackMyAssnCallMeJudy · 09/07/2021 22:35

@Phyllis321

Love it. Always my favourite Bennett sister. Classic and elegant.
Lydia Bennet certainly was not ‘classic’ or ‘elegant’! Grin
Classica · 09/07/2021 22:37

She was a classic good time girl

LizzieSiddal · 09/07/2021 22:39

Beautiful name
