TTC and thinking of names. I'm trying to narrow them down by thinking about whether I'd like to be called it or not and would like to know what others think. Also if youd have any preconceptions about people with this name.

Blair
Blythe
Primrose
Rosamund
Pandora
Perdita
Petronella

Boy's name settled on already. Robert.

Petronella would be a difficult name to pull off I think.

BadTimesAtTheElRoyale · 06/07/2021 21:00

I wouldn't mind being a Rosamund nn Rosa

NotNowPlzz · 06/07/2021 21:01

Does Primrose sound too prissy?

OP posts:
MissMaple82 · 06/07/2021 21:01

No

AuntieStella · 06/07/2021 21:01

Blair - nope, Tony
Blythe - no - too masculine
Primrose - maybe, not wild about 'prim'
Rosamund - yes, like
Pandora - yes
Perdita - maybe
Petronella - yes, like this one best

Robert is lovely, btw

SardineJam · 06/07/2021 21:02

No to Pandora ... as is the jewellery

DramaAlpaca · 06/07/2021 21:02

I would love to be called Rosamund. 'Rose of the world', just gorgeous.

I would hate to be called any of the others. Sorry.

VettiyaIruken · 06/07/2021 21:03

If you called me petronella I'd be changing it on my 18th birthday, sorry. 😁
The rest are ok imo. Rosamund if I had to pick a favourite.

Touloser · 06/07/2021 21:03

Petronella - awful.
Rosamund - old lady buy not in a cool way; in a micromanaging WI member, parish council kind of way.
Perdita- I only like because of Jilly Cooper.
Others are fine, inoffensive.

badacorn · 06/07/2021 21:04

Blair and Pandora - no. Because of tony Blair and Pandora’s box.

The rest are great. No preconceptions that I can think of.

Abracadabra12345 · 06/07/2021 21:05

I met a Rosalyn today (20s) and saying it aloud made me realise what a pretty name it is. She said “Yes, there’s not many of us about “.

Rosamund is nice, I like Primrose but couldn’t imagine it for me

Doublestar · 06/07/2021 21:05

I like them all except Perdita - it's the female dalmations name in 101:dalmations! Dita is nicer IMO.

I love Petronella, Pandora and Blythe the best but my dd is named one of these so I'm biased! Primrose and Rosamund nice too but I'm not keen on Blair (makes me think of Tony!)

Doublestar · 06/07/2021 21:06

Ah, I was thinking of pandora braithwaite when I said I like Pandora - I forgot about the tacky jewellery brand - such a shame!

AbsolutelySure · 06/07/2021 21:08

Sorry but I don't think I'd like to be called any of those names

NotNowPlzz · 06/07/2021 21:08

I wouldn't be put off by the jewellery brand.

Blair Witch Project
Not Blythe either
Love Petronella nn Petra
Love Perdita (101 Dalmations)
Don't like Rosamund as I have an old cousin with that name. Rosa? Rose?

TatianaBis · 06/07/2021 21:09

I know a Petronella - she’s mainly called Nellie/Ella. And a Pandora - mainly called Pandy or Dora.

Rosamund always sounds a bit pompous to me like Edmund - I prefer Rosalind or Rosalie.

I think I’d most like to be called Blythe of your list. Vintage, chic and not too long.

annacondom · 06/07/2021 21:09

Primrose and Pandora both lovely too.

Cotswoldmama · 06/07/2021 21:10

I like Blair and Blythe but not the others

sleepyhead · 06/07/2021 21:12

Blair is one of those Scottish surname boy's names that became girl's names in the US.

That apart, it's not a particularly attractive name to my ears. Car horns and trumpets "blare".

Primrose will always be prissy Primrose Patterson or Harold Shipman's wife to me, shame because it's such a lovely flower.

Pandora = Adrian Mole

Petronella = Wyatt

Rosamund = Lehmann, one of my favourite writers so a winner for me (plus Rosa, Rosie, Rose all lovely)

DuckonaBike · 06/07/2021 21:13

Perdita is beautiful and Shakespearean (also some more recent literary refs as others have mentioned 😀)

Rosamund is lovely too.

Petra is OK but Petronella sounds like a disease.

I like Rosamund but none of the others.

Buttons294749 · 06/07/2021 21:23

Blair - would like
Blythe - would love
Primrose - would love
Rosamund - would be meh about and refer to myself as rose
Pandora - would like
Perdita - would LOVE LOVE
Petronella - not sure, it's quite posh and I am not!

Buttons294749 · 06/07/2021 21:24

For Pandora would people make rude Pandora' s box jokes?
