Two days to go - but which name??

Booked in for a c-section this week and still can't decide on a name! I think we've narrowed it down to these two, but which one? It's starting to drive me insane...

Imogen
Phoebe

DH also really likes Sabrina, but I think it's too similar sounding to our daughter's name, and I prefer the other two names I think, despite their popularity.

Please help!

Imogen could well end up being shortened to Immy by lots of people , do you like Immy ?

Priceyslefteyebrow · 06/07/2021 13:31

Too many Phoebes

Team Imogen

Love Imogen 😍 have you planned on a middle name, you could use both Imogen phoebe or phoebe imogen

bloominglovelyorange · 06/07/2021 13:54

Imogen
It's declining in popularity too in comparison to Phoebe which is stable
Imogen feels more timeless and classic but I like both

AZisgreat · 06/07/2021 14:09

Imogen is easier to spell!

Sunrisesunset12 · 06/07/2021 14:16

Imogen....beautiful name. I nearly chose that for my daughter, decided on Isabelle instead. Still might use for my next one if they're a girl.

Nope. This is my main concern with Imogen - I dislike the nicknames. Pheebs is awful too, but I love Bee as a nn.

Do you think so? I only know of one little Phoebe. I know two Imogens, one in her 20s and one in her 30s.

Phoebe is higher in the charts, mid-20s I think, but stable. I don't think it will get any more popular because it seems to be a bit of a marmite name and people seem put off by the spelling. Imogen was popular in the 90s I think, but has been steadily declining, so definitely less popular. I think a lot of it's regional - I looked at the ONS stats for 2019 and there were no Phoebes or Imogens born in my area, so neither seem massively popular to me.

I hope your c-section goes well. Both nice names.

Save yourself energy worrying about snacks for the hospital, ironing baby clothes and any last minute haircuts/DIY/cleaning etc

freelions · 06/07/2021 14:55

My feeling is that there are more Imogens around than Phoebes but I think it really depends where you live

Neither are massively popular but obviously not unusual either so I personally wouldn't let their relative popularity influence your decision

I see them both as being quite classic in the sense that there are plenty of both aged from 0 to 25 so I don't associate either name with a single decade

DarkestBeforeDawn · 06/07/2021 15:02

Phoebe has been my number one name for a girl, for years but I had all boys and 'Phoebo' just didn't have the same ring to it Wink

It is timeless. Congratulations!

EssentialHummus · 06/07/2021 15:02

Imogen. Love it! Lots of nickname potential too. Imo, Immy, Mo, Gin, Ginny... Moomin?!

This. Just gorgeous! Good luck OP.

Lowrylake · 06/07/2021 19:39

Thanks for your comments so far everyone. I think I'm slightly edging towards Phoebe, though Moomin is obviously an excellent nn for Imogen! Hopefully things will feel clearer when we meet her.

I love both these names, and both did initially make it onto our shortlist :) But I ended up removing Phoebe as it would probably end up getting shortened to Phebs ... which I really don't like!

daisypond · 06/07/2021 20:22

Phoebe. I’m not keen on Imogen.

Chilldonaldchill · 06/07/2021 20:24

Imogen

MySocalledLoaf · 06/07/2021 20:25

Phoebe

Ostagazuzulum · 06/07/2021 20:35
