Roy for middle name

DH's (deceased) grandpa's name was Roy and he would love it as a middle name if we have a son. First name is going to be Caspar, so Caspar Roy. Do you think it can be pulled off or is it too 60s/70s/coronation st!? I know other people's opinions don't really matter, but I'm just interested to see what people think. Thanks!

Thank you for all your responses, think we'll go with Roy. Now for the really tricky bit - my amazing mum died in December and I'm desperate to honour her. Her name was Vanessa and I love 'Van' as in Dutch to be descended from. What are your thoughts? Caspar Roy Van surname.

sorry about the loss of your mum

I think Van is fine. If you're unsure you could also go with Ivan.

The only potential problem with Van is if people assume it's part of his last name.

Cbd333 · 08/07/2021 08:36

@Marty13 my dad's name is Ian so actually Ivan is rather nice as it has both of their names in there!

Caspar is great. I don't love Roy as a name but as a middle name to honour someone it's fine.
Caspar Ivan Roy flows better than Caspar Roy Ivan in my view but Ivan is a great idea. I'm sorry for your loss.

I’m not sure about Van, it sounds like part of the surname instead of a name in it’s own right.
Ivan is a nice idea to include part of your mother’s name. An alternative would be Ness.

PennyDreadful66 · 08/07/2021 15:02

I have a Louis Roy and I like it as a middle name, go for it :)

peaceinourtime · 09/07/2021 06:21

I like it and can for sure be used as a first name too.

BrutusMcDogface · 09/07/2021 06:26

Ivan sounds perfect to honour both of your parents ❤️

Roy is a name in my family and I absolutely think you should use it. Caspar Ivan Roy is perfect, and your son will have meaningful middle names.

CatsArePeople · 09/07/2021 11:36

Love it. Have one right here Grin

PattyPan · 09/07/2021 11:36

Roy is fine. Royce and Royston are dreadful - Royston is a town in Hertfordshire.
I think Ivan is better than Van. Otherwise people will ask what his middle name is and he’ll say van and they’ll think 🚚

Councilworker · 09/07/2021 11:40

Royston is Roy Chubby Browns real name (It's actually Royston Vasey. That's why the town was called that in LoG and why he made a guest appearance)

I know a Royston and the name suits him. I have no idea if he has any connection with the nice little town in Hertfordshire.

I prefer Roy as a standalone name.

I'm a fan of one syllable middle names like Roy, Ray etc
I think Roy fits the trend for "old man" names

After all that, I've had a baby girl! Thank you for your help in any case Smile

I think Casper Roy sounds really cool! Roy almost sounds like a surname in that instance.

Go for it, lovely way to commemorate someone.

lobsteroll · 09/07/2021 19:12

Oh god sorry - should have read to the end first 🤣🤣 congratulations!!

Cbd333 · 09/07/2021 19:14

@MikeWozniaksGloriousTache yes, she's called Phoebe Margot Vanessa - the Vanessa after my mum x

Roya is nice and I think Vanessa is elegant and Ness a sassy nn. Should you be looking for a girl's name.

ILoveShula · 09/07/2021 19:16

Oh sorry, Cross-Posted.

That's a very nice name. congrats and a big Welcome to little Phoebe.

MumofSpud · 09/07/2021 19:23

Working in a school it always makes me chuckle that you can tell that 'most' children's middle names must be from a grandparent!
A child will have a modern / fashionable name and then their middle name is Roy /Barry /Colin / Linda / Pauline/ Barbara etc!

I think it's nice!

ILoveShula · 09/07/2021 19:45

Me too.
Much more meaningful than the filler middle names.

Some of my friends used the middle names for their DDs because the name was their grandmother's and sounded fresh again.
