Baby girl is arriving soon and our shortlist is now . . .

Bethan
Robyn
Lauren

We're a bit stuck so I'd love to hear your opinions on these? Or any other similar suggestions? Don't have to end with an 'n' by the way! Thanks

Love Bethan.

How are you pronouncing it though? Are you Welsh? To me it’s Beth-an.

Not a fan of Robyn at all, prefer Laura to Lauren, it feels dated.

Palmatree · 03/07/2021 18:56

Bethan - I prefer just 'Beth' - Bethan is likely to get pronounced Beth-un, which sounds quite hard to me. The Welsh Beth-an sounds much nicer. How about Seren? Welsh for 'star'.

Robyn - it's ok. I like Bobbie as a nn.

Lauren - not that keen, feels a bit dated - I prefer Laurel or even Lorna.

Other suggestions -

Imogen
Rowan
Autumn
Eden
Erin
Wren
Fern
Megan

I really like all three. Lauren is my favourite.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/07/2021 19:23

I love Robyn and Bethan. I don’t like Lauren as much but it’s okay. It’s not a bad name
Other suggestions

Thanks for all the comments so far. Some great extra suggestions to think about too.

We're in England so I guess Bethan would be pronounced more like Beth-un but I don't mind that too much. My DH's favourite is Robyn but I'm just not sure I can completely warm to it. Maybe it will grow on me but not sure I want to take the risk!

Lauren is my favourite,DS1 was going to be called that. I like Robyn also but I prefer Bethany to Bethan.
What about Tegan or Brogan.

flossletsfloss · 03/07/2021 19:59

Robyn by a mile!

Chilldonaldchill · 03/07/2021 20:17

Bethan is my favourite - So much nicer than Bethany.
Robyn is lovely too.
I'm not a Lauren fan - it feels a bit 90s to me.

DacwMamYnDwad · 03/07/2021 20:28

Bethan is nice but will be Bethun, which I don't like. It was very popular in Wales in the 1960s and 1970s.

Robyn - not my taste.

Lauren - Sounds harsh and dated. Laura is much nicer.

Of the 3, Beth

Twizbe · 03/07/2021 20:29

When you get down to 2 or three I'd always say wait until baby is here to decide. She might just look more like one

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/07/2021 21:32

Of the three - Bethan is very nice. I much prefer Robin to Robyn (I know the spelling shouldn't make a difference but Robyn just looks so misspelt to me Grin). Lauren feels a bit dated - Laura, Lorna, Lara etc are much nicer imo.

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 03/07/2021 21:37

Thing is, if you don’t like Robyn you can’t have Robyn, because you both have to like the name! I remember we both wrote down all the names we liked and kept only the ones we had both chosen.

Muddywellies10 · 03/07/2021 21:50

They are all lovely names. I'd probably lean slightly to Lauren or Robyn over Bethan but agree with poster who said if you are down to 2/3 names wait until she arrives to see which is the best fit!

Happenchance · 03/07/2021 22:17

I love Bethan.

Other suggestions:
Mirren
Bronwen
Jocelyn
Gwendolyn nn Gwen
Sian
Marianne

Eliza

FindingMeno · 03/07/2021 23:12

Lauren is my favourite.

Eleoura · 03/07/2021 23:20

Bethan would be my choice from your list because its a bit different. Not so keen on Robyn, but can't say why. I went to high school with 3 Laurens and not sure its old enough to be coming back again yet? Other ideas:

Merryn
Helena
Brenna
Brianna
Bree
Caitlin
Autumn

bloominglovelyorange · 04/07/2021 10:42

If you're wanting something a bit different then don't pick Robyn. It's a nice name but it's trendy and has boomed in popularity and if you add all the Robin and Robyns together there were about 1,500 born in 2019 if you look at the official statistics. Then add all the other Ro--- names into the mix, that are overused like Roman (fastest rising boy name). Different names but when they're all in a class together they merge into one a bit. Graph of official statistics:

Lauren would be a breath of fresh air these days. How about Laurel or Lois.

Katefoster · 04/07/2021 10:59

Ah wow I never see my name on these! I would sat tho with Bethan, everyone says Beth-un and when I moved from Wales to England everyone assumes my name is Bethany which drives me crazy!! I prefer Lauren out of the 3. Also no one ever ever calls me bethan it's always Beth and so are all the other bethan's I know. There were 5 in my class 😂

Flamingosnbears · 04/07/2021 12:39

Bethan is lovely a bit different too which is refreshing

TatianaBis · 04/07/2021 12:57

Bethan and Lauren are dated.

I don’t like Robyn but others seem to.

MitheringSunday · 04/07/2021 13:00

I like Bethan and Lauren (but keener on Laura). Don't like Robyn. I think Merryn from a PP is a very good call. Ellen's also lovely. Or how about Maren (pronounced Mah-ren)?

QueenofDestruction · 04/07/2021 13:02

I love Lauren, like Bethan and dislike Robyn

Amdone123 · 04/07/2021 13:10

I love Bethan. And Bethany. My friend has a Bethany and goes by Betty. Wasn't an intentional nn ( I don't think they ever can be) ; she really suits it.
I've never liked Robyn. Lauren is dated. Love Laura. Beautiful.
P.s Your colleague is barmy.

35andThriving · 04/07/2021 18:33

Bethan is great Smile
