Amadeus?

DH loves the name Amadeus for a boy. I like it a lot too. Now I know it's a pretty 'out there' name but it wouldn't be totally ridiculous as we don't have a English surname. And we need a name that sounds the same in the two languages we speak in our family, and Amadeus fits the bill. But is it too 'strange'? And are there any similar names?

(I love Mozart too before anyone asks Grin)

I think it’s fantastic.

TheVanguardSix · 01/07/2021 23:32

I love it!

Viviennemary · 01/07/2021 23:34

It's about the worst name I've seen here for ages.

Pinchoftums · 01/07/2021 23:35

My name is pretty unusual which I like. However, I would hate to be called Amadeus. I would feel like a nob.

TippledPink · 01/07/2021 23:36

@Comedycook Amadeus was at Strood leisure park, it's now a Hollywood bowl! Amadeus will always be a dodgy nightclub with lots of foam to me, getting the Amadeus bus from Bromley or Bexleyheath at 16 😂

Grin. Brilliant! Hope the reminiscing of a big night out in Kent hasn't taken the shine off the name for you op!

@Mummyof2andapig

Only if his middle name is also Amadeus

😂 I'm singing it now!

IndecentCakes · 01/07/2021 23:44

oh oh oh Amadeus :)

WildRunner · 02/07/2021 00:57

Falco is so in my head right now Grin

AnotherSunrise · 02/07/2021 01:21

No way!

DanglySpider · 02/07/2021 01:48

As a muso myself I love it and it was on the list for two of my own dc, but I was ultimately put off that it's essentially 'oh-my-god'. At least, that's my understanding of the name!

TaraR2020 · 02/07/2021 02:12

If you hadn't mentioned the language thing I'd have said 'lovely name but horribly pretentious, your last name better be Smith'

But you can totally get away with it so do it

rubydoobydoo · 02/07/2021 02:20

It's actually a lovely name, but I can't say it out loud (even once!) without feeling like I'm singing the song Grin So that would rule it out for me I'm afraid!

Babyfg · 02/07/2021 02:29

I think it's a nice name, especially if it links your culture. Fwiw that sing came out in the 80s. I'm in my 30s and have never heard of it and just had to google it. so I doubt many of the kids in your little ones class will have either to use it against him.

mathanxiety · 02/07/2021 02:50

I absolutely love it.

ofwarren · 02/07/2021 02:54

I actually like the sound of the name but like others, I can't say it without thinking of the song. A shame really.

Member589500 · 02/07/2021 03:03

Love it but too many syllables with no obvious or good shortening.
Amos?! Sorted Smile

custardbear · 02/07/2021 03:20

@Comedycook - Rochester! I went there in my yoof too 🥳

hawkehurstgang · 02/07/2021 05:36

No, OP, come on. You can't call your child Amadeus. Can you imagine shouting 'Amadeus!' across the playground? 😂😂😂

Providora · 02/07/2021 06:11

I'd struggle to keep a straight face if I heard that tbh. Sorry OP.

Justilou1 · 02/07/2021 06:15

Oh god… Why? If you think that the movie was remotely true to his life story, I think you need to do some research. Wouldn’t you call him Wolfgang?

ThankYouDebbie · 02/07/2021 06:21

My DP has a friend called Wolfgang Amadeus . He goes by Wolf.

Violetlavenders · 02/07/2021 07:02

I like Amadeus. And Mozart was a great composer.

I think Boris Becker has a son called Amadeus.
