Emilia

I love them both! Have the best of both worlds and use Emilia with Mila as a nickname Smile

TippledPink · 29/06/2021 09:34

Mila!

Exactly!

Emilia

Faceicle · 29/06/2021 10:06

Where do you live op? A distant relative in the west Midlands has a Mila. It does not sound good I'm afraid.

toastofthetown · 29/06/2021 11:07

I prefer Emilia.

@Faceicle curious as to what you mean with how the name sounds? Thinking about Mee-la, I'm not sure that their are many accents that would really change that.

Faceicle · 29/06/2021 11:39

It's more of a tone than a phonetic pronunciation quality. So the accent makes it sound more like Mia-luh rather than Mee-la and the child's grandmother has quite a dour or depressing sounding way of speaking. But it's pretty limited to that name, as for instance Millie (pronounced Milloi) sounds fine and Isla (Oi-luh) also sounds fine.

PumpkinKlNG · 29/06/2021 11:41

Emilia / Amelia is really really common so I would pick mila which is less common

Faceicle · 29/06/2021 11:45

I don't know how much people consider regional accents when they're naming? We did, there are so many different accents across the UK I wouldn't be surprised if it's the most diverse country. I hadn't considered how Mila could sound before relative arrived!

NotTheCatsWhiskers · 29/06/2021 19:57

Emilia. I really don’t like Mila.

StevieNix · 29/06/2021 20:07

Mila but I love it as a nickname for Milena (like mila kunis has done)

NotTheCatsWhiskers · 29/06/2021 20:27

Milena just reminds me of Melena which is a medical word for black tarry poo.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/06/2021 22:39

Emilia. It's classical, very international and Shakespearean - it's just a shame it's easily confused/soundalike with more popular Amelia.

Mila is cute but very trendy and also used quite often as a nn too (for Emilia/Amelia, Camila, Milena etc).

EishetChayil · 29/06/2021 23:28

Whenever I see Mila I'm never sure whether it's Meela or Miller.

BeesAnkles · 30/06/2021 23:11

Mila is much nicer.

Eleoura · 30/06/2021 23:15

Mila reminds me of millia- a skin condition!

I prefer Amelia.

WhatTheFlap · 01/07/2021 09:28

Emilia/Amelia is incredibly popular at the moment, I'd go with Mila!

ThatWouldBeEnough · 01/07/2021 09:36

If you can get over the pronunciation issues with Mila (is it Mee-la or My-la) then I’d go with that as it’s just a little bit different.

That said both names are lovely!

Lemonlemon88 · 01/07/2021 09:38

Emilia is lovely.

BreasticlesNotTesticles · 01/07/2021 09:42

I have an Amelia (dreadfullly common on here I know 🙄) but is known as Mila as a natural nickname

lollypoppi · 01/07/2021 09:43

Well I have an Emilia so I'm biased. It's a beautiful name. I don't like Mila though.

Everyone always says Emilia/Amelia is so popular but I haven't come across any at her nursery yet. I think it might be a regional thing and it's a lot more popular in areas in England. I'm in Scotland and there's none in her 2 classes at nursery or her little sisters. There's 4 Emily's though! My dh wanted Emily and I said it was too popular and I much preferred Emilia anyway.

nevernotstruggling · 01/07/2021 09:49

Mila it's less of a mouthful
