Names similar to Isabelle/a?

My baby is 11 days old and still doesn't have a name! We actually decided on Isabelle but some family members don't like it (my husband and I are from different cultures) even though I think it should just be our decision...anyhow
We did like Sophia but it's very common
Our son is called Raphael
Can anyone suggest any names to go with his? :)

Imogen, Annabelle, Arabella all have some sounds in common with Isabelle. I also would put Eleanor, Emmeline, Amelie, Elodie in the same sort of category.

Isolde, Ismene, Annabel all have a bit of sound overlap, Julia, Louisa have a similar style

ozzyfroggy · 26/06/2021 16:50

Juliette, Rosaline, Rosalind, Marianne

Isadora?

Buttercup72 · 26/06/2021 16:51

Think Isabelle is lovely, you should stick with what you want. My mum didn’t like our daughters name when we first suggested it, but it’s grown on her now so there’s every chance they will change their mind, if not tough cookies 😀

ShanghaiDiva · 26/06/2021 16:54

From the names suggested here I like Julia, Juliette and Helena.
Although I agree with pp, if you want Isabella stick with it. It’s a beautiful name.

ShanghaiDiva · 26/06/2021 16:55

Sorry, Isabelle not Isabella.

Isabelle is nice but rhymes with your sons name.

What about Laura?
Amelia?
Ella?
Zara?
Eliza?
Julia?

Id usually say stick with the name you like. You can please some people some of the time but you can't please walk people all the time. The only thing that swayed me was when you said both yourself and your DH are from different cultures. Maybe in some Cultures the whole family does get a say in what name a child is given

BiBabbles · 26/06/2021 17:00

Isabelle is nice.

With a DS named Raphael, I'd probably use Isabella just so the ends of the names sounds more different.

Similarish names not already mentioned, I think: Briella, Mirabel(le/la), Rosa/Rosella

mdh2020 · 26/06/2021 17:37

Use Isabella. My mother didn’t; like either of the names we chose for our children and I don’t like all the names chosen for my GC but I love the children and as soon as my mum held her first GD she couldn’t have cared less what we called her

Twizbe · 26/06/2021 17:57

Elizabeth and Isabelle have the same roots. Elizabeth is a fantastic name IMHO

StayCalmX · 26/06/2021 17:59

Raphael and Julia sound really good together.

StayCalmX · 26/06/2021 18:03

It's not the culture of my country that your mum sticks her oar in and ruins a good name for you but that's what happened for me.

Mum, I like Greta
''What! that's ridiculous, an ugly name''
Well, my other name was stella, do you like that?.

What, we had a milk maid called stella in 1950, it's an awful name.
Well, who could dislike Flora...?
Eugh like the margarine?

OppsUpsSide · 26/06/2021 18:18

Eloise

hazandduck · 26/06/2021 18:49

@StayCalmX sounds like my mum, “I love Clementine!” “What, Phlegmy Clemmy?” 🤣 I was pregnant and didn’t say any more names I really liked to people after that, as didn’t want to be put off.

It is a bit different when you announce the name once the baby is born though!

Gabriella and Raphael sound cool together. Congrats on your baby, OP.

DramaAlpaca · 26/06/2021 21:45

Go with Isabelle if you both like it. Family members shouldn't have a say in naming your child.

cantthinkofaname2021 · 27/06/2021 12:40

Thank you for all the replies
I agree I don't think anyone should have a say, you can give suggestions or opinions I guess
Apparently Isabelle is not allowed to be used it will cause too many argumetns and problems
Now I'm thinking Lily Isabelle

Ignore the family. Isabella works across many cultures and countries.

SaffieSoph · 27/06/2021 16:11

Lily Isabelle is lovely!
Others I thought that are similar -
Annabelle, Isadora, Theodora, mirabelle,

cantthinkofaname2021 · 04/07/2021 23:48

Just to pop back on and say we finally chose last Friday
Sophia Isabelle
As Sophia fitted into both cultures but managed to get Isabelle in there as a middle name Wink
