Kit, short for Christopher

Thoughts on Kit, short for Christopher? Christopher would only be on the BC. Is it a bit of an eyebrow raiser, how different the names are? An thoughts appreciated!

I like Kit, ambivalent about Christopher. I do think it is a pain to have a diminutive that starts with a different letter to your BC name though-so I would probably avoid it.

The only Kit I know is female, 20-something (and has problems with people mis-hearing it as Kate!) and of course the car from knight rider! But I would have known it as a nickname for Christopher.

Kittow/Kit is the Cornish for Christopher and I've heard it a small handful of times here.

I love it. Met one for the first time about 5 years ago and he was a lovely man with a lovely family.

I don't know any Kits but it's a normal nn for Christopher and I wouldn't bat an eyelid

Apparently the actor Kit Harington didn't realise his own name was Christopher till he was 11 😄

I knew a Christopher at university whose dad called him Kit, so since I first met him with his dad I assumed he went by Kit for a while, but then found out he was introducing himself to people as Chris. I guess the moral is you can call him Kit but you can't guarantee he won't want his friends to call him Chris or Christopher when he's older - maybe choose a different name, or make Kit the official name on the BC, if that would be a deal breaker for you. Personally I rather like Kit, and Kester too.

I love this name. It would have been my youngest's name if it went with our surname.

I haven't met one but it seems to be quite a Mumsnetty name and often comes up on here.

Also it makes me think of the car in Knight Rider which is pretty cool. 😁
